This sounds horrible but I was wondering if anybody had had a similiar problem .
Pup is pinching Poo from cats tray - he doesnt eat his own poo though . :(
We try to keep him away and clear up straight away but on occasion he has beaten us . Why is he doing this ? I am also worried because cat droppings can carry harmful diseases .
Does anyone have any answers as to why he is doing this ?

We have to stop him eating cat litter too.

Hi lel,
We had the same problem with Saxon and the only thing we could do was to keep the door closed to where the litter tray was kept. My cat was pts last week so he obviously can't eat the poo anymore but we took him for a walk last night and I caught him eating something as we arrived home. I stopped him but as it was dark couldn't see what it was and this morning his crate was covered in sick and it was all over the carpet as well :(. I looked at the spot where he was eating this morning and it was cat poo :(.
I know before when he got to our litter tray he was sick so try your best to keep your little one away from the tray. I know easier said than done, they seem to like it for some strange reason

Cat litter Ctunchies a gourmet snack to most dogs!
They do it because they like it. I suspect that cat poo still has a lot of nutrient content, and dogs being the opportunists they are won't apss up anything remotely nutritious!

Depending on the breed...get a covered cat litter tray that has too small an entrance for dog to get head through...thats what I did!!!

We affectionately call it Kitty Almond Rocca in the states! Almond Rocca is a like a round Dime bar rolled in chopped nuts. Very delicious, but also looks suspiciously like a cat poo with litter stuck all over it! :D

I'm soooo relieved that its not just my pup who does it .
I've never had a dog whos done this before and as i said i'm worried about him catching something and getting ill!!! :(

Ebbie does this as well - problem is - if u close the door - the cats can't get to the litter - hence it is then deposited somewhere else convenient and ebbie still gets to eat it - she spots/smells it before i do.

Try putting litter tray in a cupboard or other room with a catflap in the door so cat can get in dog can't

Quinn, I was never able to eat Almond Roca after I cleaned out litter boxes working at my teen job with the vets..
I didn't like the stuff that much before and AFTERWARDS, no way!!!

Didn't bother older bro, though. He'd consume those 'treats' for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, if given a chance  ;)

I think nearly all dogs do this if given the chance. I think it's because the smell is like food to them. If your cat is wormed regularly I don't think your dog will catch anything, but I would put the cat tray out of puppy's reach - some place/room he doesn't have access.

I have 2 dogs and three cats. I'm also lucky to have a spare bedroom in my house, so my solution works well for us.
I have a "puppy gate" that I put in the door-way of the Kitty's room. I keep their food, water, and litter box inside, so the dogs can't get to any of it, but the cats can go in and out as they please :)
Of course, it also gives them a safe haven if they get sick of playing chanse with the 11 month old GSD!

Cat poop tastes yummy to a dog! It smells meaty to them! Sounds yukky to us, but they love it! My Labrador eats cat poop all the time, its hard to stop her, being as my cat does it in my garden, the dog catches a whiff and off she goes!
Just make sure your cats are all wormed, and the dog doesnt eat any cat poop when you are out walking her/him.
It wont do her/him any harm.
If you dog eats its own mess, put pineapple in its dinner, then it wont eat the poop!
Good Luck!
