An Airdale is an Airdale. There are no size variations registerable in the UK.

AKC breed standard is 23 inches for dogs,at the shoulders and well muscled. Bitches slightly smaller.
Kennel Club size limits-- 58-61 cms (23-24 ins) for dogs, taken from top of shoulder, and bitches about 56-59 cms (22-23 ins).

Miniature Great Danes?

At Crufts last year I was asked if my dalmatian was a miniature Harlequin Great Dane...:rolleyes:

I just keep wondering how 'giant' these airedales are that the guest is referring to. .... Airedale dogs can range up to around 85 pounds with the current height standard. That's quite large enough for anyone's tastes, imo!!!
And they are true terriers with none of the usual "placidity" of the bull/terrier blends. (sorry, couldn't think of a better word for the potential laid back qualities of the bullies) Airedales are very very strong and powerful with the typical terrier go-get-it nature. Something that comes in a much larger size, frankly worries me :(

While I've met several wonderful examples over the years, every dog owner has said the males are a true handful...the bitches are much easier to raise and train. I'd just hate to think of one of these beautiful dogs, extremely oversized to be considered 'giant' in the hands of someone who couldn't physically or mentally control one. :(
