hi looking for some info please a lady i know had a litter of 3 pups one pup had to be pts at a few days old as he had one front leg much shorter than the others
vet said a dog can live happily with 3 legs but she decided against keeping him alive,
now she has said she noticed that another boy pup has a lump on belly possible hernia she will take him to vets in morning
just looking for any info on options for him
i have said that somtimes hernias are harmless or could be that mum pulled to hard on cord when there were first born
am i right in this info, and wondering if she took them all to vets first time round and why it hasnt been noticed before
thanks

Small umbilical hernias can pop up any time within the first few weeks. If small they do tend to be harmless. Hopefully her vet will set her straight.

I had a bitch tug and pull to such an extent that I thought the pup would bleed to death!  A hernia appeared at around 7 weeks old.  As the pup had been reserved, I gave them the option to cancel.  As they still wanted the pup, I asked them to leave him with me a while longer.  I had the hernia repaired by my own vet, and kept him a little longer.

I know many on here thought I should have waited, but I wouldn't risk a pet owner not realising that it had become urgent.  I preferred to have it done at my own cost, rather than the pup be at risk because of someone's lack of knowledge.

Hi I recently bought a puppy who has a small umbilical hernia. He has been seen by a vet who said it only needs operating on for cosmetic reasons and to wait and have it repaired if and when I have him castrated. My breeder reduced the price to cover the cost of the operation. The hernia is still small and unless absolutely necessary I won't put him through unnecessary surgery.
