I am just wondering what other people take and what for as, since joining the over 40's, various joints have started to ache and I want to be pro-active in preventing rather than curing !
I already take Evening Primrose Oil to try and reduce my desire to plant a very sharp pointy object between OH's shoulder blades every month !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, what do you take and what for ?

Omega 3 Fish Oil
V interested in this. My knees have started to ache and my right shoulder joint is painful. Bascially I am falling apart and I don't have the time for it. I have a bottle of Glucosamine and Condroitin (sp?) but it doesn't seem to have any effect to date. Maybe you have to get several months build up to feel the benefit.

Same here, took it for a couple of years on GP's advice. Made not a blind bit of difference so I gave up and am certainly no worse.

Vit B complex, I become tired very easily due to a chronic health problem but I've found the B vits have made a difference, they also cured my numb arms, which was a relief, I was convinced I was going to have a heart attack lol.
I buy Vitamins from Healthspan who are based in Guernsey, good quality and very cheap.

I buy from Simply Supplements who are also based in Guernsey. Unfortunately, the VAT loophole which allows goods shipped to the rest of the UK to be free of VAT is to be closed from 1st April 2012 - so these companies
may not be so cheap in future - might be worth stocking up :)

Thanks for that Daisy, I didn't know that :-)
My mum has been taking Glucosamine. Her friend (a vet) told her to take a double dosage for the first month or two so it really kicks into your system....she said thats what they recommend with the dogs at the surgery.....my mum didnt know whether to take it as a compliment or not but if it works for the dogs lol :-)

Daisy you are correct...the locals are up in arms, a lot of jobs here are in goods under the £15 threshold being sent to Uk and such like.
That and finance, not everyone is in or likes financial market work.

I developed a raised blood sugar whilst I was taking Glucosamine, I was warned by a friend who had trialled it on her patients and a high number developed raised blood sugars which returned to normal when it was stopped, I never got any relief so it was no problem to stop taking it and my blood glucose returned to normal within a month.
I wouldn't recommend this to humans or dogs.
Rhodach that is interesting. Bit worrying but would like to know more, as so many take it.
I tend to take Boots/Sainsbury's/Seven Seas Joint supplement which contains Glucosamine, Chondroitin and also Fish Oils (you have to watch you don't have too much Vit A I think it is, but they sort this out for you, or should do).
I feel a lot better - not sure whether it is the fish oils or the glucosamine/ch. or all of it, so I just keep taking it!

I take the Yumega Imove which contains Glucosiamine HCL, Green lipped mussel providing chondroitin EPA & ETA and hyalurionc acid plus Vit E and C. Does work wonders for my poor old knees and hips and it's all in the one tablet, I have 3 a day and feel so much better for it. I tried the Yumove on Merlot and Granny Pepsi and liked the way it made them so much more mobile so gave it a try and love it.
Not cheap but it is in my case worth it.

I guess the clue is in the name :)
There has been a study on this
http://joe.endocrinology-journals.org/content/208/1/41if you can bare to read it :-D
The problem seems to have only been identified in patients taking more than the recommended dose but then taking more than the recommended dose is very common as people tend to up it when they don't get the desired effect and there can't be any danger in taking a "natural" medicine can there? :)

I'm 68 and take nothing in the way of supplements, but aim to eat a healthy diet and exercise. Husband likewise. At the moment, I'm glad to say, we're both well, active and enjoying life despite very difficult caring responsibilities. :-)

All the evidence suggests you really can't do better than that carene :)
