Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Silent Season ???

Has anybody had any experience in a bitch having a "silent season" ? I have a male dog who is desperate to get with the bitch and when they do meet she is lifting her tail and allowing him to mount her, needless to say that is as far as I allow them to get and both are now seperated. Do I have a bitch in what folks call a silent season or is she just a little slapper !!!

Sound to me like you have a bitch in season. They are all slappers when they are in season. Good luck

I used to laugh when people said their bitch had silent seasons until I had a bitch that had them. It was only when I tried to get her mated and never had any success that I realised something was wrong. It took a vets test on what I thought would be her first day and he said mate her today that I realised she had the first week without any signs.

What you do have to watch is that I also had a bitch that kept flagging her tail and and flirting for a couple of weeks and she wasn't in season in any way and this went on for a while and she had to be operated on and she had cysts on the ovaries and she had to be spayed so becareful and keep an eye on her.

Thanks for your help I am about demented here with tis dog of mine. This silent season is worse than a normal season. He copes with them really well and hardly misses a meal. This time he has not eaten a single thing for 9 days and shows no signs of starting again. Don't show him, not too worried about his loss of weight. I gave in and took him to the vets and got him a male hormone suppresent injection. God I hope it kicks in quickly. The bitch that is causing the problems is on the injections to stop her from coming into season, I can only guess that as my other bitch was in season which I am planning to breed from brought some kind of hormone reaction on with the younger bitch. It can't last forever CAN IT !!!!!??????
