Afternoon all,
Could anyone please advise me what size crate we will need for a Boxer?
In all the dogs I have had both as a child and adult, this will be the first one I have used a crate for.
We thought perhaps the x large, but looking at 1 yesterday, it does seem rather large.
Any thoughts would be appreciated........
Thank you
I use 42" crate for similar size dog.

I use a large size for my boxer boy , well I did have 2 boxers in it but as my lil pup passed yesterday I only have my boy now . He loves his cage wudnt be without one x

I'm very sorry to hear that. Thank you for taking the time to reply.
I'd opt for a 42" one and suggest you choose your model based on which door you need to open, and which side you need it hinged on. Savic crates also have the side door slightly offset which can be an advantage if you like to hook a bowl on the outside...
If you have a puppy, choosing a crate with a divider option is a good idea

Depends if it's for an adult or puppy? If it's a puppy be careful of getting too large a crate as the pup may use part of it as a toilet area if no one responds when he needs to go out. I know this shouldn't happen but people go out of earshot, put the crate in the wrong place etc or just don't see the signs, so be careful. You could either get a crate with a divider (as has been suggested), get a smaller crate but accept you will need to update it as you go along, or buy a large crate and block off part of it (eg with a cardboard box). Fleabay is very good for crates/dog cages - it does make wonder when people pay exorbitant prices at the pet shops/pet supermarkets when they are so readily available secondhand nowadays. We have crates in the lounge and bedroom so always somewhere for pup/young dog/new rescue to be safely housed when needed.
If it is you are buying crate for a pup and only want to buy the one crate, ie full size, it's worth looking at the www.doghealth.co.uk galvanised crates. They are available to buy with a divider - or without if your dog is adult :-)

42" cage will be plenty big enough.
If going for the dog health ones make sure it's the galvanised 3 door ones as they are well made ones.
These are the ones that look like grey hammerite.
They have the better door catches.
I have them and mine are 4 years old and look like new.
The only downside is that if you have a chewer they may chew the bottom tray but you used to be able
to buy replacement trays.
I also have crates from Dog Health and whilst the crates are great the trays can be a problem. They are plastic and can split with the dogs weight.I now put a piece of plywood directly under the tray to stop this happening.Replacements cost £10 plus delivery and are not covered by any guarantee.
