Anybody give me any ideas about parking in/near London.

Will be driving up with OH for theatre and a couple of nights in town. Would prefer to leave car away from centre.

Used to having my sister there, have to fend for ourselves as she came home.

No idea but don't forget it is very expensive if you have to pay the congestion charge -and it is up to you to pay it within so many days to not be left with a fine.

That is part of the reason I'd prefer to park out of the way and use London transport.

I'd be worried about leaving my car unattended for any length of time in a 'strange' place, particularly overnight :( Do you really need to have a car ?? Otherwise, you would almost be better off finding a secure car-park (like those at Heathrow) and leaving it there. Do you know anybody who lives near London who could have your car ?? That would be an alternative.

Well actually yes...didn't want to offend anybody asking or not asking ;)
It is sorted out now and thanks for posting.

Do need the car as we are going to drive up from the ferry in Portsmouth and hopefully do some shopping somewhere south too.
Ikea I hope and all the lovely places we haven't got here :)

I live outside the congestion zone (in Ealing), and it's nice & safe to leave a car near my house (sorry, no offroad parking).  If anyone from Champdogs needs this just send me a note.

We have usually found a parking space near an underground - we used to park near Ealing but the it is mostly residential parking there now.  We went a bit further into London and found somewhere - it wasn't that difficult.  Use a map to see when you are near a tube station - and then go off the main road.  My son did it yesterday - haven't spoken to him today yet so don't know where he left his car.   Ealing area is good for us because it isn't far from the M4 and straight home.

Don't recommend doing what my son did yesterday - he parked at Stamford Brook - in a carpark.  He only had a fiver on him and it should have been £12!  He put a note on the car and parked it in a corner - still came back to a ticket.  Expensive day out.

When we go for a few days we usually book a hotel outside of the main theatre zone but with parking. It only usually costs about £5 a day I think to park. Some of the Holiday inn's on the outskirts of London and Ibis hotels have parking and we have used one near padding station before, i think that was called the Shaftesbury Premier. You have to pre warn that you will be taking a car though as spaces are limited.
