Topic Dog Boards / General / So Proud Of My Lily Last Night

I let Lily and Kyiro out to the toilet late last night, and there was a cat in the garden. Lily took off after it, I really shouted at her to leave it and she stopped dead and ran back indoors.
I think the shock of me shouting at her scared her as it took a few calls to get her back out again, but at least the cat survived to live another day.
I was so pleased she controlled her instincts, stopped mid flight and listened to me.   Not bad for a greyhound who raced and was taught to chase things for 5 years of her life.
Dear Kyiro my other greyhound never even noticed it

Wow, well done Lily, I wish my lot were that good!

Two nights ago I had a cat sitting on my fence a good 50ft down the garden. It ignored the sound of 5 dogs and a human standing on a big paving slab that cluncks when stood on, it ignored the security lighting coming on and it ignored 40kg of Doberman hurtling towards it barking her silly head off.

I think it must have jumped just as Cadies had it by the tail as it ended up flying through the air in a big arc and landed way over Baloo's head and ran through the stock fencing I have covering my sparce hedge on the other side of the garden.  It had a very lucky escape.

Cadies is normally well controlled by voice but I think she couldn't hear me due to her own silly barking, Baloo has cloth ears at the best of times.

On a side note, I will never understand cats, although I have had them all my life.  What is so facinating about being in my garden of flat plain lawn?  I am surrounded by gardens with orchards, wilderness and mature trees and undergrowth.  Why are they always in my garden at night?

Hope the poor thing gets over it's fright and learns to run away when it still has plenty of time, I don't think my poor pounding heart could deal with that again.

Clever girl Lily :-)

On the subject of Grey's, has anyone read a book called Dash ? it's about an ex-racer taken into a home straight off the track, it's really good.
