I think I have asked thsi question before but we still seem to have aproblem suggestions are welcome.
Brooke is approx 8 months old now and brilliant in every way except housetraining at night. Firstly she stopped sleeping at night for more than a couple of hours in her crate about 6weeks ago apart from leaving her to bark for up to hour at a time and waking everyone it was clear that she had decided that sleeping next to me in my room with my other dog was for her (not in my bed I add)
Brilliant she sleep sthrough no problem. One thing though being a very considerate dog every couple of nights she must wake and not wishing to disturb me tiptoes done the stairs in to the hall and wees or poos then comes back,
I think if I put a stiar gate across my bedroom door she will then wee or poo in my room , not good and also my gsd is used to walking around in the night to wherever he wants to lay upstairs. I can not get her crate errected in my room its to big ( I tries and ended up at the hospital lat week with a broken toe !!)
Has anyone any better suggestions or will she grow out of needing the toilet at night. Sher didnt need the tilet when in the crate just nned to be with me. btw she is no problem during the day when left for a couple of hours
She goes out at night at about 11.00 for last wee etc and unless family come in later then she goes out agin of she needs to she wakes p with me at about 8.00. Again rarely a rush to wee and even more rarely to poo

What time is she getting her last meal of the day? If she hasn't got an upset stomach and is fed early enough in the evening she should be able to last out, it looks like it is a habit she has got into as she isn't desperate or she would perform in the bedroom or on the landing.

I would try and make sure she has a wee before bed and has had a poo since she last ate,if giving a bedtime treat make sure it is only tiny so it doesn't stir up her bowels.

Can you put something on her collar that alerts you to her being on the move so you either take her out or tell her to settle down,it may then in time break this habit.

I am going to bring her last meal to about 4.30  thats an excellant idea that makes sense it should give her give her plenty of time to digest and poo before bed at 11 ish - I
her collar does have a dangle thing on but I might get something to attach at bedtime. The problem with her moving is that with 2 dogs that wander about at night I am not sure if I would ever get any sleep if each time I heard one of them I checked what was happening. My gsd often changes doorways to guard and my go downstairs  to the hall if he is hot. My room is such that from my bed I cant see the whole of the room nor can I see the door without getting out of bed .
I agree I dont think she is desparate, more a habit which I need to break, as she alway chooses the front door mat to go on ( great the only place in the hall that isnt laminate and therefore washable )

The door mat will be retaining the smell unless you use biological washing liquid to clean it so this may also be the reason she is drawn back to that spot.

If under the mat is washable try lifting it up last thing at night.

Yes I think you could be right unfortunately it is a large fixed one like carpet so can come up. I have used the bissell cleaner on it again but not sure if it gets deep enough on coconut matting or if the detergent does have any amonia in it. not sure if I can use biological in the bissell. Am thinking I may have to dispose of mat and have amtico as is the rest of the hall. blimey thats going to cost if i have to that oh wont be pleased lol
Just thought maybe blocking off the mat maybe a possibility

try not to worry too much,im having the odd accident with gwen who is nearly a year old,shes been so good,too!im sure its like kids,some take longer than others but they all get there in the end!

Would she cope if you had her in the crate overnight downstairs?

Oh and FF, I do feel your pain, mine has started the pee and poo game in the house now, even with the doors open to the garden. I was thinking as her behaviour has been changing recently whether she is on the verge of coming into season - I am waiting and i'm sure the tinker is likely to come in at the wrong time for LKA!!!

Thats interesting sj I wonder if thats got anythong to do with it ? Unfortunately sleeping in her crate downstairs def doesnt work as she wakes every couple of hours and creates merry hell to get upstairs to me ( what it is to be loved!)
I am wondering abou a fabric crate which would be smaller than her metal one and might fit mext to my bed. I could use it for shows as well.
Last night she was last let out at 2 am then for other reasons I was awake on and off through the night and she was fast asleep then 8.30 I went down stars and there was a big wee she was still upstirs dozing

My youngest bitch started the same habit when she was due her season and during and fora few weeks after. Sois she due a season???

I also found she was doing it if I went to the loo first thing in the morning and went back to bed. Only me,no one else in the house bothered her just me moving around. So I ignored it as much as possible, came downstairs and just looked at the mess and tutted, got the bucket out crossly but not OTT. That decreased it but what really worked was taking the mat up. Pure habit simple as, I washed the mat post accident everytime to remove scent but was nothing to do with it. She just developed a bad habit. She's been great for weeks now back to her routine.

Mine hasn't had her first one as yet. My breeder has said that her lines often come in around 8 months for the first time, she is 7 1/2mnths, so in answer to your questions yes. Her behaviour in other aspects are heading my thoughts that way too..

As for FF's girl, I don't think she's had her first one either, she is around the same age, give or take a week.

I nearly posted in the same vein (it then disappeared) as my almost 9 month old has regressed to having accidents and hasn't' had her season yet (her sisters have). 

I'd crate her i9n teh bedroom so she cna wake you wehn she needs to go.

Just a thought, I dont know the breed, but as its a small bedroom (by the fact you cant get a crate erected in your room), could you block off and area beside the bed??? Means you can only get into the bed one side, but she cant get out of that side/???? With a cupbpard that you can move but she cant, or a gate???? And if it has rrom under the bed, block that off as well;/
She may be a breed that would climb over but a thought to get her out of the habit and into the habit of asking you to go out :)

As sj said she hasntt had her first season yet so that's a possibility. Hadn't thought of whispa will keep an eye on him if it is - think a trip to the vet is needed. The trouble with our room is it is actually big 28ft. But divided into the bed half and a dressing room with the room door. - could get a crate in the dressing room half but not sure about blocking thinks off she is a flat coat and quite determined and will jump. Apart from changing her dinner timed - think - will try thecrate in the other half of the room although she won't beable. To see me otherwise a smaller night time crate fabric type. Besides all this she is chewing just about anything that isn't nailed down she has just. Chewed and ruin a pair of brand new shoes that I bought about5 hours ago she may as well. Of eaten 50 pound - didn't know she coukd reach them grr

How about a puppy pen round her in your bedroom to contain her to one area.  You wouldn't need a big one as you could get away with only needing tree sides.

The babies have moved upstairs with us, not my idea, whenthey wake a similar thing can happen,I think its just due to them waking up.  Once one of us is awake in the morning they go downstairs and outside quickly or I have an accident to sort.   They have been a little out of sorts since we got back home and don't like going out the back very much.  No problem anywhere else.

good idea reikiangangel thats roughly all i need and with a pen I can make it to my shape if you see what I mean. I think it probably similar with Brooke its properly not helped by having a family that seem to come and go all hours and may disturb her but not actually wake her up. Off to have alook at ebay

I like the puppy panels from Croft - you'd need the taller 89cm ones I'd guess.

I bought 4 cheap on eBay from someone who no longer needed them but I can always add more panels if I want them in future.  Long after I stopped needing an enclosed pen I still use the panels  if I want to leave a door open but keep the dogs in...

I also used the panels last Christmas to enclose the tree for short periods till the baby shark stopped gurning at his reflection in the baubles!!

haha,thats what i called my two youngest-sharks!sometimes carpet sharks!very apt,too!
