Having never been to GBAS before, does anyone know why the schedule gives the venue postcode as EH28 8NF but then says if using satnav you should use the airport postcode EH12 9DN instead?

I don't want to go to the airport, I want to go to the dog show!!

The showground postcode covers a large area, and may take you to the industrial estate along the road :-)

If you use the airport postcode your satnav will take you down the road after the showground (if travelling from the west), it doesn't really matter you can just go left at the roundabout in front of the airport to get back :-)

Just to clarify, because I wouldn't want you to end up having to pay £1 to get out of the airport follow your satnav until you come to a roundabout just before the airport with 2 large metal horse head sculptures on it - go left here. Then to the end of the road and turn right for the car park.

We're coming from north east, past Newcastle.

Any recommendations for hotels nearby? We're probably not going to be in the ring until at least 3pm as our judge has 5 other breeds before ours so it's going to be a late finish!

try travel lodge as you can take your dog/dogs in the room with you but they charge £20 for dog,am coming from ayrshire so it will take us 1hour and 30min to get to showground
pointers are first in ring then am doing gbas stakes class ,its first time we have been at gbas champ show so looking forward to it,take your welligtons as showground can be muddy,i use to compete at royal highland show with my horses

I don't think you'll need your wellies :-) The show is inside, you do have to walk through the shale car park, but it's easy to avoid any puddles then the rest of the way is paved :-)

Coming from Newcastle it's easy, up the A696/A68, onto the City Bypass A720 (West Bound) till you come to the gogar roundabout, A8 for the airport. Under the RBS bridge and watch for the airport slip road. Off at the slip road and right under the A8, straight over the roundabout to the one with the horse heads and go left.

There is the Quality Hotel (used to be called The Lodge I think) right at the gates of the showground,  it allowed dogs last year and you just leave your car in the hotel car park and you are on tarmac rather that shale on the way to the gate.  The Hilton is at the roundabout just before the hotel, and a couple of travelodges on the way in on your route - remember to factor in their extra dog charge when you look at the prices.
