Topic Dog Boards / Showing / A critique for me
- By inka [ie] Date 04.11.11 09:22 UTC
Following on from the 'clicker training a stack' thread where I included some photos of my two greyhounds I thought it might be better to post the pictures here so they don't get lost and forgotten about in the old thread.

We are all new to showing, they are not 'show bred' greyhounds although both do actually have a French show champion relative (who was bred from one racing parent and one show parent incidentally), we are entering ex-racing greyhound classes to begin with so that shouldn't specifically matter anyway. We may also enter a few open shows for fun. Each one I've been to in Ireland this year has had no more than one greyhound entrant!

Anyway, if you would like to offer a critique of my hounds, please do, I won't take offence since I know I own the best dogs. My dogs are companions primarily and we also do lure coursing, obedience and will be giving agility a try in the new year :)

I love them; especially your fawn girl, fawns make my knees go weak! I would say she has more condition and potential than him, but I have no idea about Greyhounds! Please keep us updated on your progress!

aww thanks! He's my baby, he was a successful racer and is a really happy and well trained boy. We do a lot together so I was actually thinking it might make life easier for me as a handler to start out with him :D Inka is a hell of a lot of fun but as i've only had her since July/August she is not yet at the same level of training as him. She's an expert sofa stealer though :D

Hi I cant comment show wise on your dogs but wanted to say what great pictures you have taken of them.

The lad in particular looks a real cheeky character enjoy them shows are only one day a week I just treat them as a day out when we go , its the rest of the time that matters.

Firstly you are correct to some degree, you do own the best dogs..well not quite cos I do..lol
Secondly we can only go by the pics & showing involves dogs movement too(which I'm sure you are aware of). Otherwise & by going only from your pics, Waggamama is right you will have more success with Inka. As your boy is 8, he is classified as a veteran in the show world & I suspect that will be the class you will enter him in(although I not sure the race/course classes are very well classified at shows)....It's been a while since I had my show Greyhound.
When I get 2 mins I will give you my thoughts on Inka in a pm..I shall be constructive but not too harsh(I hope) :)

On the basis that "I won't take offence since I know I own the best dogs"

Dog is more show type than the bitch who is too lightly made with insufficient turn of stifle.
Show type ( the winners) are very deep in the brisket and very angulated behind with long ( snake like) heads.

No Toolz, I really won't take offence! I'd love to know more about all of this and I adore my dogs either way so it's all good! Thanks for the compliments on my boy particularly because while he's only done fun shows, he has LOVED the experience so I was hoping to enter him in some open shows :)

- ohhhhhhh what a beauty! :)

Incidentally, if anyone else would like to offer a critique on either of my dogs please do. I can provide more pictures and really won't be offended as they're my babies and perfect to me already :)
