Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Question about NFC
- By SLF [gb] Date 01.11.11 22:14 UTC
Does anyone know if you are allowed to enter a DOCKED dog NFC at a show where the public pays at entrance fee?
- By Lexy [gb] Date 01.11.11 22:38 UTC
The rule is Only undocked dogs &legally docked dogs may be entered for exhibition at this show by this statement I would take it that Not For Competition means they will not be exhibited...so logically I would assume yes.

Applying logic to the the KCs rules? It's a novel idea, hope it works :-)

On the other hand you are entering the dog not for competition, and by the fact of being within the show you are putting the dog on exhibition, the fact that you are not competing does not matter.

We have just had a similar problem with the entry of NFC dogs at the show I am associated with, an exhibitor insists they can enter a pup under 6 months at this show, it is not a breed show. We, the committee, say it is against KC rules and so they can't. The person concerned has been making a big fuss about it but the fact remains the KC say no and I think the docked dog would be the same, ask the KC is the safest way at least for the show society who would be the ones paying the fine.

That must be a nightmare for the society as how would they know until the dog turns up?  At least with an age issue you are forwarned by the entry form.

That is true, lucky for us hounds are not docked but we do get other groups entered NFC so we could get caught, on our schedule it says (Only undocked dogs and legally docked dogs may be entered for exhibition at this show) so I would think we were covered but until the situation arises you never know what may happen

SLF, how old is the docked dog?  Was it docked before the laws on docking changed? If so, then there is no problem with the dog attending the show.

If it's a youngster, then I'm with the others, I don't think it would be within the rules and laws.

There would be a problem if the show charges the public to enter - gets more complicated the more you think about it.

No Nova, it wouldn't be any problem if the dog was born and docked before the laws were changed. I have a breed that was previously docked (American Cocker Spaniel) and there are many docked dogs still in the ring, born and docked prior to the new law.

Think I beg to differ, have been led to believe that at shows where the public are charged to enter then NO docked dogs are allowed, legal or not. For example Crufts.

From the KC web site (note item C)

However, if your dog was legally docked either in the UK or in another country on or after 28th March/6th April 2007, you will be permitted to compete with it at:

(a) all shows held in Scotland

(b) all shows held in Northern Ireland

(c) those shows held in England and Wales where the public do not pay to be admitted.

Hi Jackie, your quote says if the dog was docked on or after blah blah. The following was taken from the cdb website just now, when I googled for a quote to clarify.

A dog docked before the 28 March 2007 in Wales and 6 April 2007 in England may continue to be shown at all shows in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland throughout its natural life.

My old girl (Docked - born 2001) can still be exhibited at Crufts and any other shows that the public are charged to enter.
As can her docked cousin born 2004.

It's only a ban on those dogs legally docked after the 'general' docking ban came in i.e. after 6th April 2007 for England.
So for any dogs docked prior to this date, they can still be shown at all shows in UK.

Understand and stand corrected.

A docked dog CAN be entered at a show NFC if the show society allows NFC entries. Crufts however doesn't but docked dogs CAN be on display in the Discover dogs or in working dog demos, agility etc. regardless if born pre AWB or docked after AWB under working dog exemption.  The AWB rules are purely related the the actual "showing" of dogs in competition

The dog in question will only be about 8 months so after the law - but I think you've answered by question, not worth the risk.

Many thanks for all your answers.
