Hi, my dog mated on the 9th day on her last season. will she always mate on the 9th day or can it vary. She was a month late with this season
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 30.10.11 13:27 UTC
It will vary. My last bitch had a litter from a Day 13 mating, and two years later a litter from matings on Days 18 and 20.

If she was mated & had pups on her last season, she will need to be left this season.

If she was mated & didnt have pups then yes it can vary on every season. I mate mine 11th/12th day but 10th-13th is the norm.

I have never had a bitch mated earlier than day 12 and have puppies.  My own bitches have tended to be days 15 - 17 most often, with a variation of days 11 to day 22.

My girl was mated on day 11th/12th too, I tend to rely on her behaviour to tell.

Why don't you have her blood tested?

It can vary slighty for sure but with mine its only by a few days either way. I've had a bitch mate on day 9 and have pups.

Thats why I said it can vary..as every breed & bitch & season is different.

I have mated mine on the 11th or 12th day & always had pups but they are all different

One of my bitches had a litter from a day 8 mating, and two years later had a litter from a day 19 mating.

So, you can't say that every season will be the same.  You can't ever guess ovulation.

I've never had a mating that didn't result in a litter. The earliest was day 5, the latest day 18.

Gosh I have had at least one miss with all but one of my girls, and statistically I think 80% of bitches mated do produce, pretty good odds.

She didn't have puppies on her last mating but i'm hoping she will this time. She mated on her 10th day this time and
will be mated again tomorrow, her 12th day. I hope it results in puppies!!!

Hi suzywuzy fair to say that all bitches differ.Progesterone Level Testing where the vet may check the bloods on site or send them off for analysis is the foolproof way to determine ovulation.
