Whew!  Whatta night!!

All waited to be born on the 29th because it's my birthday.  First was after 1.30am and the last at 4.30am 2 bitch pups and 4 dog pups.  My girl has a grin on her face a mile wide.

What a great birthday present.  :-)  :-)  :-)
- By waggamama [gb] Date 29.10.11 04:21 UTC
I'm so jealous! You lucky little minx getting all of them so early and well!
Huge congratulations to you, you must be completely over the moon. :D
- By JeanSW Date 29.10.11 04:28 UTC
:-)  :-)  :-)

What a fast whelping too!  I know she has been edging up to it for a couple of days, with her restlessness.  And I found the first stage labour very wearing, seemed to go on forever.  But the actual last stage labour was so rapid!  I feel shattered emotionally (you always worry for your bitch), but my adrenaline is so high, I don't think I could sleep anyway.

It's a real buzz feeling!  And I adore the little squeaks I can hear as they are all jostling for position.  Two needed Dopram, but are suckling well now.  Ain't life great?  :-)
- By Charlie Brown [gb] Date 29.10.11 04:46 UTC
Congratulations on the pups and Happy birthday :)

Well done!
- By waggamama [gb] Date 29.10.11 04:56 UTC
You're so so lucky! I long for my girl to pop now! What was it like, did she contract hard for each pup?

I'm thinking I'll take her in to the vets on Sunday if she hasn't had them today or Sunday morning. She seems quite happy and fine in herself, but you know how it is.
- By JeanSW Date 29.10.11 05:06 UTC

>did she contract hard for each pup

She had an interval between each pup with no contractions, just resting and suckling.  But with each pup there was 2 or 3 extra hard pushes, and the actual birth of each wasn't terribly prolonged.  I much prefer that to the ones that can contract for an hour, but they are so mild that the bitch just wears herself out.
- By kenzi [gb] Date 29.10.11 06:12 UTC
Congratulations!! how exciting, were you expecting 6?
- By Reikiangel [gb] Date 29.10.11 07:21 UTC

- By Dogz Date 29.10.11 07:42 UTC

Congratulations to both of you, Happy Birthday.
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 29.10.11 08:04 UTC
Aw, what a great birthday present! I'd like to point out that's hardly fair when yours was the third to really get going, and poor waggamama & grover are still waiting! :-D
- By drover [gb] Date 29.10.11 08:45 UTC
Congrats Jean and happy birthday! :)

Well, my girl started having what I would describe as very mild contractions late last night, they are quite far apart, and obviously this was causing her some discomfort as she was pacing, she also started digging and shredded her blanket...and the a cushion when i turned my back for a second!!!

She settled more at about 6am and slept next to the sofa with my hand on her belly for a few hours, she is now back to pacing and the odd mild contraction.

I dont feel concerned as she hasnt got the 'look' on her face and I feel that it is just slow going and nothing sinister...would others agree? I would hate to miss something or let it go on too long. I can feel the pups move- though not  as much as they have been.
- By Carrington Date 29.10.11 08:45 UTC
Congrats JeanSW and very happy birthday! :-)

Mine came within 24hrs from this.  Not long now.
- By waggamama [gb] Date 29.10.11 09:16 UTC
I think our bitches have been conferring, ditto!
- By cavlover Date 29.10.11 09:50 UTC
Happy Birthday and congratulations on the new arrivals Jean :-)
Hope litters 2 and 3 make their appearances today (Waggamama's and Drover's) :-)
- By claire_41 [gb] Date 29.10.11 10:46 UTC
Bet they both wait till the clocks go back and you cant decide what day they were born :) x
- By JeanSW Date 29.10.11 11:34 UTC
Yes kenzi I expected that many.  But not because of a scan.  I just knew how my bitch felt, and how big I expected her to get.  I always "guesstimate" pretty close.

Since posting, and while I laid next to the whelping box, I dozed off and she had a 7th puppy.  Now that WAS unexpected!  :-)

This was not a first litter.  But she will be spayed in 12 weeks time.
- By drover [gb] Date 29.10.11 11:36 UTC
I think wagga has news! :)

My bitch is sleeping now grrrr
- By JeanSW Date 29.10.11 11:43 UTC
Oh drover you must be worn out.  The anticipation is a killer!
- By drover [gb] Date 29.10.11 11:45 UTC
I think the worry is getting to me more than anything, I just want the birth over so that I know my girl is ok.

Oh and congrats on the 7th!!
- By itsadogslife [gb] Date 29.10.11 11:57 UTC
Congratulations Jean on the save arrival of your pups. What a birthday present - I'm sure you're really thrilled (and knackered lol).

Continued good wishes to Drover and Wagamamma for smooth whelpings for their girls...
- By waggamama [gb] Date 29.10.11 12:04 UTC
We have a little girlie! Easy whelp, she stood up and I realised she was loosing a blood clot. I came and scrubbed up, sat beside her, and her waters came. Then a few minutes later, a beautiful big girl, 7oz. She did everything, licked it down, but the cord was still inside her so I had to cut that and clamp it, no blood but I tied a piece of thread on the end just in case.

Then a few minutes later another puppy came, so small and dark the bag I thought it was the placenta. Very underformed, very small, I opened the bag up and the head looks primative and just not right. No breath in the mite, and the bag was black, so I wished that one well on its way to the bridge and concentrated on the first girlie, who Mark had put down as a BOY! Sigh, men!

Now Maisy is very content, almost asleep, with the puppy on a hot water bottle suckling to her. I'm so proud of my baby and so glad that so far, she's okay. The look she gave me as she birthed, I held her so close.

Report back soon, and Jean, huge congrats on no. 7!

And Drove; nur nur nur nuuuuur nurr! ;) ;) ;)
- By drover [gb] Date 29.10.11 12:28 UTC

>And Drove; nur nur nur nuuuuur nurr!

Now thats not very nice! Congrats on the girlie and fingers crossed for the rest. Sorry you lost the little one.

I'm not jealous of you and Jean AT ALL!!!
- By kenzi [gb] Date 29.10.11 12:39 UTC
Waggamama thats so sad about the little one you lost but big congrats to the little girl puppy,do you think she has more to come?
- By waggamama [gb] Date 29.10.11 13:34 UTC
Lol Drover, soooorry.

We've had another, a little boy, healthy and beautiful like his sister. After him came another dead puppy, larger than the other one but still small, and decomposing like the other one too. Very sad but this life is for the living as they say, keeping my mind focussed on Maisy. She's doing well and did all the cleaning up herself. Both babies now feeding and content, wiggling, squeaking little wormies.
- By Dogz Date 29.10.11 13:39 UTC
Oh poor Maisy, is she looking for the other two,or is she concentrated on the other s?
- By claire_41 [gb] Date 29.10.11 13:50 UTC
Congrats Jean

Waggamama so sorry for the babies at the bridge, congratulations on the two you have x

Drover......hope you get babies soon x
- By drover [gb] Date 29.10.11 14:00 UTC
We are going for a brisk walk in a minute with the other dogs, I think she is bored as she keeps throwing her tennis ball at me!
- By Reikiangel [gb] Date 29.10.11 15:40 UTC

> > I think she is bored as she keeps throwing her tennis ball at me!

Tell her to get on with it, she won't be bored then lol

Sorry to hear about the other babies, glad you got there in the end.
- By WolfieStruppi [gb] Date 29.10.11 16:29 UTC
Jean, Happy birthday & congratulations on your litter, wow quick work eh? I assume a Birthday tipple is out as you're on puppy watch.

Well done to Waggamama, sorry about the babies who didn't make it. Has she finished now?

Drover, hope things move along! You can't always see contractions. Over the years I've had 2 bitches that didn't have any signs of labour, the pups kind of 'slid out' & yet with another one I counted 24 contractions before her 1st pup was born. Maybe if she's away from the other dogs she'll start to concentrate!
- By waggamama [gb] Date 29.10.11 16:46 UTC
Well four hours of labour and Maisy has four beautiful babies, two girls, two boys. She's settled and happy with htem nursing now so I think she's finished. Best call puppy buyers now to break the good news!
- By Carrington Date 29.10.11 16:53 UTC
:-D :-D :-D Oh Wagga, fantastic news, who'd have thought you'd get in before Drover (won't be long for you too) sorry you lost one, but huge congrats on your new litter. :-)
- By waggamama [gb] Date 29.10.11 16:58 UTC
We actually lost two, another was born decomposing. BUT. We have stunning puppies, and Maisy is well; I could not be more happy!
- By drover [gb] Date 29.10.11 17:06 UTC
Yes who wouldve thought it! Lucky mare! Im all on my own now with no signs of progress.
- By FlyingFinn [gb] Date 29.10.11 18:22 UTC
Congratulations Beth and Maisy! FINALLY!! Now you need to stop stearing at them and go and catch up on some shut eye ;) Big kiss for the new mum from my gang!
- By Brainless [gb] Date 29.10.11 18:45 UTC
birthday names please.
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 29.10.11 20:00 UTC
Sorry about the two you lost, and well done on the healthy living 4 - fantastic news! Just drover's to go now! I've really enjoyed checking on this thread. :-)
- By waggamama [gb] Date 29.10.11 20:21 UTC
Aww thanks FF, I think you may be right, lol! Knackered but WIRED.

Drover, I was pretty shocked she had them today, I thought for sure Rip was going to have them first!

Thanks Lucy, I'm chuffed to bits and trying not to dwell on the little lives that were gone too soon today. xx
- By drover [gb] Date 29.10.11 20:46 UTC
Mine will not be born tonight by the looks of it. My girl is sleeping on her back, everything out for the world to see and has been for the last 2 hours.
- By cb87 [gb] Date 29.10.11 21:01 UTC
i will be in your position in just over a week drover, my litter is due on the 8th to the first mating, she is huge though, her belly is almost on the floor and she cant crouch down for a pee any more she is that big :o
- By WendyJ [gb] Date 29.10.11 21:19 UTC
I'm so sorry for your two lost babies,  but thrilled fir the four you have.  Let's hope the drama is all over now and you and she can both settle in and get some rest
- By waggamama [gb] Date 29.10.11 21:25 UTC
LOL Drover! Love that expression; but she's due tomorrow, she may well pop tonight!

Thank you Wendy; it's so funny to see my own litter now after watching yours grow from this stage to the stage they're at now!
- By drover [gb] Date 29.10.11 21:40 UTC
I really hope you dont have the same thing happen to you...my girl has been leading me on a merry dance for what will be the 7th night tonight.

I now have a permanent headache from the worry and sleepless nights, I get excited when she does a poo or pants for longer than 5 seconds, she paces the house and I follow, she gets my hopes up by having slight contractions for the last 24 hours or so, yet they have led to nothing, she sleeps, i stay awake...what is this? The longest labour ever?!
I had a good reassuring chat with my fantastic vet (who is also a breeder) earlier, and the first thing he said was "what do you expect, its ripley, she IS going to make you suffer".

I. Need. Sleep. I think I may be losing the plot.

Sorry for the slight rant!
- By JeanSW Date 29.10.11 21:43 UTC

>I'm not jealous of you and Jean AT ALL!!!

ROFL!
drover, you're not on your own just because we have our pups.  Everyone is still going to be checking in to see how things are progressing.  If you need to chat, their is always someone on here that knows what you're going through.

Positive vibes  :-)  :-)
- By JeanSW Date 29.10.11 21:52 UTC

>Report back soon, and Jean, huge congrats on no. 7!<br />

It was another bitch puppy, so evened up the balance some.  I am glad that we gain an hour tonight though, I'm starting to flag.  Just checking every squeak, in case a pup needs moving keeps you alert to every noise.

My girl is really eating well.  Although I'm not expecting her to get out of the whelping box, she is having the dishes held up for her to feed from.

Each time she has let me know that she wants to go up the garden, she turns to check that I've closed the door, so none of the others get a sniff of her babes.  Her face is a picture, she thinks she is so clever.  :-)
- By waggamama [gb] Date 29.10.11 22:16 UTC
Mine is suddenly hungry again; tonight I was in the kitchen, she followed me though, whined at me, I followed her in, and she stares pointedly at her bowl! First time in her whole pregnancy that she's hungry!
- By Goldmali Date 29.10.11 22:24 UTC
Congratulations Jean and Beth! Waiting for Drover's news now. :) Oh and as it happens I'm about to become a granny as a bitch I have bred is due on Wednesday -but I am sure she will be earlier. So this will be pretty new to me -dealing with it all over the phone and not in person. I've promised to be available day and night by phone (owners live several hours away) so we shall see if I get to sleep or not LOL.
- By JeanSW Date 29.10.11 22:24 UTC
Congratulations by the way.  Have been away from the PC, so the good wishes are late.  Sorry!

Although it is horrible to lose pups, I don't think we can afford to dwell on it too much.  I am just so glad that your 4 are fine, and your girl did so well.

I feel so sorry for drover with a headache, as I had a stinker when my bitch was in labour, and I know it's just the tension.  But drover has had rather a long wait of it.

Although, as her girl sounds perfectly fine, it's just the damned waiting game.
- By MsTemeraire Date 29.10.11 22:55 UTC
Congratulations! You are really a wagga mama now:)

Do not mourn too much those born without breath,
For they only knew the sweetest life.
Suspended in the mother eternal;
The purest innocents of all.
