Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Foreign judges in UK - which standard do they judge by?
- By Saffronsmith [gb] Date 26.10.11 10:29 UTC
Hi all,

my British made breed has a slightly different breed standard in some countries; perhaps this is the same for all breeds?  When a judge from another country is invited to judge in the UK, do they have to judge to the UK standard or can they judge to their own?

I do like to see the results and critiques from foreign judges - it's often a very different set of dogs that have placings - very refreshing! :-)

They should use the UK standard but I would think that could be difficult after years of judging by another one. Expect any large changes would be remembered but that small ones may well be ignored.

they have to judge to the standard of the country they are judging in.

Yes it should be UK but it doesn't always happen. I've lost count of the number of times I've had comments like "Not red enough". Well that's because mine are Fawn and not Red -but only the UK standard allows for Fawn, FCI is only Red.
