Hi my lurcher pup 6months old, was sick 5 times from 9.00 last night till we woke up at 9 this morning. Is this to worry about, she seemed ok in her self, was alittle bit tired all night but was still getting excited over the cats and over me and was still begging for food all night. And she has woken up this morning and looks fine. She was full of beans at first but is now sleeping, but she usually gus to sleep on the sofa withing 15 mins of getting up ina morning.
There are a few things I can think of to have caused it.
1 - she has had a new dog food past few days, not one in jelly or gravy, its a 'supermeat' one. and its not puppy. But she enjoys it.
2 - all places i walk her locally have gone all 'marchy' and muddy and watery. She has been loving it, and although i try to avoid the marchy parts she runs strate to the and runs around mad for 20mins getting wet and muddy from top to bottom, could be something in the water or fact she is getting cold ??
3- My cat had two ticks the other day, and although the cat is fine, could they have somehow made my pup ill??
4 - she has never really been into treats but i have finally found a treat she enjoys, 'munchy stick', and so past couple days she has been eaten quite a few of these, prob more than i should be giving her as i was just so happy she has treats she likes.
5- she is due to be wormed. Will do so today.

What do you think may have cause it, and should i still take her strate to the vets, or just  keep an eye on her today ???

Would put her onto chicken for 24 hours and do not give the wormer. The chicken will give her stomach a rest and allow you to see if the sickness has passed. The wormer could cause an already sore stomach to become more inflamed.

Make sure she has plenty to drink and if she does not vomit again I would not worry but if it continues I would take her to the vets.

thank you. I shall give the wormer tomorro if no more sickness today or tonight :) she has not drank much yesterday or today :( so u dnt think the fact she needs worming has caused her the sickness. The sick looked like the dog food she had yesterday, but that may be because it was the last thing she ate. I just want to get to the bottom of what caused it so I no she wont be ill like that again :( x

I woudl wait with the wormer until her stomach is completely right again.

Have no idea why she was sick, it is sometimes impossible to say but she does need to be taking in fluid, try a splash of milk in the water or even better cook a chicken breast in lots of water then liquidise it and give her that a table spoon an hour.

So, no worming till she is better, only light food but most important fluids, if she continues to be sick or is not taking in liquid then take her to the vet. With a young dog dehydration is the worry not eating is nothing like the same problem.

Find a puppy food she likes or add a little raw minced tripe to a puppy mixer, get it from a local pet store  . Her stomach is not ready for adult tinned food.Don't feed so many munchy sticks.Chicken and boiled rice for a few days , rest her stomach ,and always change food gradually.Worming is not urgent until she is absolutely well. You don't say where abouts you are but there are problems in certain areas , read' seasonal illness' posts . Marsh areas can run off farm land and I wouldn't walk a young pup there.Get a kong toy/play treat ball and start using that as a reward treat  and to occupy her for a longer time than a munchy stick . Use smaller treats to praise her if need be..If the vomiting continues or she has jelly mucus/blood streaks starting in her poo take her to the vet.

2 days ago she went for a poo and it came out in like a layer of thin mucas type stuff (clear)??? Is that what you mean by jelly mucus in her poo ???? I didnt think anything of it!! Im from the uk, worcestershire area !!

Regarding the 'munchy sticks' -  what you are describing is exactly the way my dogs react to them.   Anything with 'rawhide' has the same effect :(

However I find that the Tripe Sticks are enjoyed far more and don't upset their tums :)

yes it is , its the guts reaction , its irritated and the mucus appears ....if you are still worried after a couple of days on boiled rice and boiled chicken I would scrape up a sample and pop down your vets with it . Lots of us who have had various breeds for 40 years , get used to this scenario and keep a useful medicine chest .Try and sort out the diet and stick to it ,try and not walk near the water source  and marsh land...and if in doubt  go to the vet .

I don't want to worry anyone but there is a 'parvo' type illness doing the rounds. If it were my dog I'd be at the vets, just for peace of mind.
