Topic Dog Boards / Health / Boxer Puppy 7 months with fluid ??
- By NatalieH [gb] Date 21.10.11 11:13 UTC
Hi , i am looking for some advise please , my boxer puppy was in good health on wednesday morning , then i went to collect my daughter from school and on my return i let the puppy out to go to toilet and when she came bk in there was big lumps over her eyes and on her back , i took her to the vet and he said she had an allergic reaction to something.they done some bloods in house and said they were fine no abnormalities. I put the hives down to my new air freshner. then yesterday she appeared to have sagging under her chin and she has blown up in size and looks bigger than she did on wednesday. I took her back the vets this morning an he said she has fluid which is not good for any good and reccommended more blood being sent away to the lab for analysis. He said she also has fluid on her chest and her front legs, he weighed her on wednesday and she was 14.9 then he weighed her again today and she was 19.7. I asked the vet what he thinks it could be and he said she is a medical mystery for now and until the results come back by 5 he does not know. I am just wondering if anyone from this site has ever had a dog with fluid and what was the outcome ?

many thanks
Natalie x

Your vet should ring a veterinary hospital like the BVA one at Potters Bar or Bristol and get some help . We had a borzoi with wood inhalation pneumonia and the vet rang Bristol vet hospital to get the cocktail of drugs he needed to save him...which he did .

Hi unfortunately not , they have had emergency blood results an they have said she has hypoalbuminea which they said means she is loosing protein in to the blood from either her kidneys , liver or intestine so I have to take her in for the day tomorrow so they can start the liver tests :( am devastated xx

Hi , yes , unfortunatley it was her kidneys :( she has been put on steriods and the vet says if they work or we see an improvement we would be lucky to still have her in a years time. If not then we may have to put her to sleep. As yet i have still not seen an improvement she still is not eating well , and is loosing weight. Got to take her back on wednesday.

Thanks
Natalie

So sorry to read that the medication didn't help her condition.

May she RIP and run free at the Bridge.

Make sure you let her breeder know so others in the litter can be given a thorough check up.

The fact that you've reported it to Dr Cattanach may be enough in itself.
