I just seen this printed on there schedule

In an effort to contain our costs, the Society will not be employing
Security Contractors to check removal passes at the forthcoming
show, therefore passes will not be issued and exhibitors are
reminded that the safety of their dogs is their sole responsibility.

Is this something champ shows are going to also stop doing?

At least they are being up front about it. My removal passes weren't checked at Darlington, Driffield or south Wales this year :-( I do think it is a shame, I personally never leave my dog unattended but realise some with multiple benched dogs have to leave them when in the ring with one.

I have alwasy felt that "security" at shows is anything but secure, but may have lulled exhibitors into a false sense of security, and made them not quite as watchful of their own dogs as they could be.  So many ways to get round the rules the checking of pass outs seems to be just an inconvenience and  added expense.    This seems a common sense move to me.

noticed also in a lot of the breed notes in the papers that people are having things stolen of the benches only last week someone had wrote they got their reserve cc stolen, someone else their full grooming bag which was later found but emptied of all the contence then the week before someones purse had gone so it is not just security getting in and out of the show it is also when we are at shows .

I agree with Gwen -I don't see that the so called security at shows does any good at all, ESPECIALLY not for toydogs because if anyone was intent on stealing one, all you'd have to do would be put it inside your Pedigree show bag -loads of space in them. Or you enter 2 dogs, leave one at home, and hence you have removal passes for two so can nick an extra -unless all dogs had to be microchipped and all were scanned when entering and leaving, nobody would ever know.

We will see a large increase in bringing in season bitches to be mated/ taken back to stud dog owners, young puppies being delivered etc all of which needed a pass ( obtained from other dogs presumably) before.

on the other hand they cannot charge us a fortune for NFC.

True!
But Id hate to see the hand over of puppies at shows as common place.

But it does just say that REMOVAL passes won't be checked - so I'm assuming that we'll still need to show our passes to get into the show ground?
- By judgedredd [gb] Date 21.10.11 13:24 UTC
also people checking the dogs how do they know it is the breed they are checking in the car etc is the one that should be leaving the showground, if they are just normal staff that man the gates and have nothing to do with dogs.
- By Stevensonsign [gb] Date 21.10.11 13:34 UTC
entry pass security has been declining for years, guys on the gates that don't know breeds anyway etc . I can see the reason  for not bothering with the system any more and saving cash . there are security announcements over the tannoy at the shows usually ..watch your bags etc . Take your bag with you if going to the bar etc ,  the grooming box goes in the cage with the dog (safer than a bag in case a naughty dog decides to investigate the contents(and liver bait ) and we never leave the bench  without asking our bench neighbours to watch our dog etc  and we do the same for them ..

I dont for one minute think my dog or anything i leave at the benching area is safe even with 'security' at the gates. My dogs never get left alone on there own without me or a friend being there with them.
I was only asking,  as i think its going to open a massive flood gate to the example 'tooolz' gave.

Some years back, when the fad for Chihuahuas in handbags was at a peak, I actually witnessed this at Crufts.   A well known breeder, and the recipient a teenage girl.  (Wasn't me, if you aren't ageing, you don't stand a chance!)

just out of interest, do dogs get stolen from shows?

If somebody was to steal a dog, surely they would not have it sitting in the car to be seen by the checkers anyways but hidden away?
or they would be likely to be doing it to order and have fake paperwork anyways?
If no removal passes are needed, I take they will still check something when entering the venue so it is not like people will just walk in with puppies/dogs not entered?

If this change means the entry fees come down a little (wishful thinking) I would welcome it :)

Thanks for pointing it out, wizzed through the schedule and missed the pass info.

Not sure about in the showing world but yes dogs have gone missing from agility shows and game fairs in the past. I think the last one I heard about was a couple of years ago. If the venue is open to the public my dogs are always padlocked into their crates when I am walking the course.

I've been thinking of padlocking my bitch's show crate closed with my grooming bag inside when I have to show. But I do worry about my table trolley being stolen, or the whole crate being stolen (it's a small crate).
