Just heard an upsetting story where a dog on holiday in France (a UK dog ) was lost and several months later has turned up with new owners who had bought him in good faith and no one had traced his UK microchip when it didn't come up on the French system. new owners are refusing to hand him back.. apparently his UK chip could have been registered on the French system for a small fee but the owners did not know to do so.
now if situation was reversed and it was a french dog with a french chip lost in UK is it possible to register his French chip into the UK system to make it easier for an English vet/rescue to reunit him with his proper owners? how would one go about doing this?

I registered my NZ animals with petlog, just contacted them, submitted the chip no. and just paid the same fee as having a chip inserted. I think they sent me forms to fill out. It was all pretty straightforward.

When I brought my aussie from hungry I contacted petlog and the microchip was then registered over here no cost.
I asked my daughter who lives in The Netherlands about registering a dog chipped in the UK on a mainland Europe register. All hers are registered with the Dutch central registry, but she also registers them for a fee with a registry that envelopes most European countries. I think she said it was called europetnet. Her own dogs she also has registered with Petlog here c/o our UK address. So maybe if you travel abroad it with your dogs it is worth registering them the central registry?

thanks everyone for info.
Thanks for this, I didn't realise there was a central registry so next time we go over the channel I'll get the girls registered.
