Topic Dog Boards / General / Multi tool for large breeds' claws
- By Scoobysmum [gb] Date 10.10.11 09:03 UTC
Hello, I am looking for recommendations regarding the best multi-tool type thing to get to file down my dogs claws. He is a Rhodesian Ridgeback, so quite large, and has very tough claws. I have heard some people suggest that Dremel do a cordless pet nail file but can't find it anywhere online. Are there other brands out there that do them specifically for pets? Can I just get a basic multi-tool from a DIY shop or does it need to be adapted for pet use? What sort of power/wattage etc does it need to be to do a large dogs claws?

Many thanks

I had one given me that was bought from PAH.

I've just bought a Wahl one - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wahl-Smartgroom-Nail-Grinder-Blue/dp/B00486DBL2

I had one of the battery ones but it slowed/stopped the minute you put the slightest bit of pressure on.  I have a medium/large working breed and this grinder is very efficient and quick.  It also has a variety of attachments including two different sanders, a stone grinder and a polisher.  It's got a long cable too.

I have the Black and Decker Wizard (not cordless)  it's handy for OH to use too and I keep my own grinders separate ;)

I just answered a similar post so sorry for repeating myself.

i have a Dremel and I really like it. I tried a cordless variety I bought on amazon. It was useless on my Dobes but may be OK on tiny nails.

My girls and boy, hate the Dremel but put up with it.
