My 12wk old Boxer Putter only has one testicle. Apparently, the second one did not drop. The Vet recommends nuetering him to avoid Cancer. I have heard that there is medication for humans that have the same problem. Do I have any options? I really do NOT want to nueter my buddy. Please help!

I will try any home remedies or "Whole Foods" type suggestions.......

I'd give it a lot longer say 12 months. If it does not come down then it is best removed, but there is no hurry let the lad grow up first. Jackie

My mother's golden hadthuis problem. She was advised to wait till he was 9 months old (supposedly the best age for castrating) and if it hadn't come down by then, to have the retained testicle removed. This was duly done, the other was left in situ.

The dog is now 11 years old and hasn't had any problems. So that's the course of action I'd recommend if you don't want to neuter him. He'll be just as male with one testicle. Mind you, being smooth coated, he could look a bit odd from the rear!

Do the testicles drop at different ages in different breeds, or just different ages? I would have thought 12 weeks was way to young for them to have dropped anyway, blades has only just dropped (lab) and he is 7 months.

They drop at different ages in different individuals. And some times come and go, but the come & go type are OK, and will in the end decide to stay in the big wide world with the rest of us. Jackie

I too have a boxer with an undescended testicle, he is 8 months old. After much discussion with his vet and his breeder, we have decided to wait until he is over 18 months before we neuter. This gives him time to develop properly and also gives the testicle time to drop into place if it is going to (although I very much doubt it will).
Your puppy is still quite young and you may find the testicle drops soon anyway. Also, if you can feel the undescended one, you could encourage it into position by gently massaging it towards the sac. This was recommended to a friend who's dog had the same problem and it sometimes works.

Agree with the others - just have patience. If you're still worried when he's about 6 moths old, you could try a course of homeopathic Clematis, which is reputed to help.
