One of mine has slight problems with the old Anal Glands and I've been told to try some bran in her dinner.  First question is what amount of bran should I add,  she weighs about 27-28kgs.   Second question is, would it be worth trying a higher fibre food, and if so what would anyone recommend.  We use Autarky at the moment which has a fibre content of 3%.

All thoughts appreciated...

Personally I would try some raw food, tripe chicken necks etc.. failing that then lightly steamed veg like cabbage and brocolli. I have always found they will not eat bran and either shake it of or leave it in the bowl. How would you get them to eat dry bran in with dry kibble? Unless you soak the kibble first and then everything is soft. Next thing you will have is dirty teeth as well.

Bran along with carrot or pumpkin was suggest to me by a vet to help with annal glands, it made no difference at all unless you count increased out put.

The only thing that has assisted, is allowing them to have bones as part of their diet.

I've always wondered about the advice to feed bran    If soft poos are the cause of anal gland problems, how are more soft poos supposed to help?  Bran absorbs moisture and bulks up, as far as I can tell that's all it does

I've used Bio Yoghurt to help firm up poos as well ;)
