I know this probably sounds really stupid, but I'm getting a choc/white pup soon, and I have been told to watch what I feed? The person never really elaborated on this, and I haven't seen them since to ask..

So any ideas? Is there any thing I need to consider? I know with the black/whites that beet can tinge the coat.

What food do you use?

Inclined to think this is an old wife's tale - keep a new puppy on the same food as the breeder fed, the breeder should give you enough to give you time to find a supply - if you want to change to something different then take about 10 days to do it gradually adding the new food and lessen the old one. I have also found it helpful to bring a quantity of the water from the breeder and change that slowly as well although you will have to do that over about 5 days.

My 6 year old Border Collie is red/white, and I don't watch what I feed any more than my normal practise with all dogs. 

I've noticed that there is a change in coat (with all my dogs, whatever colour), when I feed Fish4Dogs.  But only in as much as they get a really good shine on, and the skin is great.  But the Omega 3 in fish would do that.

Could she have meant the white parts around her face? I know that in my breed they have white beards and there are things you can do to keep them white, i.e. adding a teaspoon of cider vinegar, filtered water (which works well for us), and it's also said not to feed foods with colourings in them as the reds can bring on that staining more so than brown kibble.
