I am not sure, but I think I found a flea on my dog yesterday despite only just being due her monthly advocate. I gave her a good groom and couldn't find any signs of anymore. I was just wondering if I should treat my home with anything as I'm still not 100% sure it was one, but with young children in the house I would hate for them to be a problem!

I don't think young kids eat a lot of them so I wouldn't worry!!lol. Have you got a flea comb? If not, get one and comb your dog on a white piece of paper. Wet the dirt afterwards and if the dirt turns red, you have fleas. This is how I flea-treat my dogs. I would hate to put such harsh chemicals on my dogs constantly unless necessary. Also, if your kids are like mine and constantly snuggling with the dogs, I don't want my kids around the chemicals either. You will find that fleas are not as common as your vet would like you to think!

Ha ha!! Definately fleas as found another on her today, yuk! she had her advocate yesterday so that should get rid of anymore and given the house a very good clean today, just dont know if i need to spray the house with something? Never had a dog or cat with fleas before so this is a new one for me!! The poor dog has had to endure a very long grooming session today and pretty sure there are no more (although thought that yesterday!!)

You probably need to spray the house with Indorex or RIP; they say that for every flea that you find on an animal there are 100 in various stages of development in the environment.

Just been and got some Acclaim from the vets so will give this a go tomorrow when all the children are out. Hope it works!

Acclaim is excellent and for years that was all I ever used as if there are no fleas in the environment the dogs bringing one in would not be bothered for long. It is possible your dog has been investigating a hedgehog or you have a neighbour with cats that are not being treated

She is a very in and out the bushes kind of girl so she could of quite easily picked one or 2 up and this is what I have found as I groom and check her over daily so would of thought I would notice one quickly. We also have 2 4 month old kittens who stay indoors at the moment and they have none on them so hoping I have caught it early.

If the advocate does not contain an insect growth regulator then you will need to treat the house.
Even if it does the fleas not on the dog would still be able to feed on other victims (you and the family and any other creatures living in or passing through your garden) and breed.
