I posted about my male mounting my female constantly even though she's not in season in the general section last week. There wasn't any signs that my bitch was ill at all. No temp, not off food, not drinking more, nothing. But I did bathe her incase she had rolled in something that my male found particularly inviting! This seemed to work for a doy or so but this morning, he was like a raging bull for her. I checked her vulva and there was a slight creamy coloured discharge. I have her booked in for a check but not till almost 5 tonight!! I am sick with worry now. Do you think this could be a pyo? She is fine in herself but she did have a season 2 months ago. God, time is going so slowly and I am kicking myself that I didn't follow my instincts that something wasn't quite right!! I hope it's just a UTI. Should I just get and emergency spay incase it is pyo or will the vet be able to diagnose straight away?

They should be able to disgnose quite quickly.Has she been drinking more as that is often another sign.
When my bitch had open Pyo she started with a very slight cream discharge which we thought was a good sign as she had been mated about 3 weeks prior. The vet did, however say she had a slight infection and put her on Synulox. 5 days later she hadn't eaten was very lethargic and started with a heavier creamy/salmon very smelly coloured discharge (I'll never forget that smell!). At that point they put her on double Noroclav and Alizin (at that time not registered for use on Pyo - just for aborting) but it did the trick and she recovered without the need for spay at that stage, but she was very ill. IF it is Pyo, then it's probably quite early and the vet should get her on a good strong AB at least.
If you don't plan to breed her then I would consider a spay anyway, as if it is Pyo, then it's likely to occur again next season, even if you do knock it on the head this time.
Hope it's nothing to worry about. Pyo is an awful thing.

I would expect the vet to be able to diagnose straight away. A friends bitch had a closed pyo and it was obvious something wasnt right with her so if your bitch isnt diplaying anything out of the ordinary try not to worry. I'd obviously keep the vet appointment just to be safe.
my bitch had an open pyo and had no other symptoms than a lot of discharge. She was eating and running around as normal but lost a lot of pusy looking discharge. I don't remember the boys being interested in her.

Nope, she's not been drinking more, she's still jumping the fences and gates and as active as ever, I would also say she is more hungry than usual, she's also got no temp. The only thing is this discharge which was sort of dripping after her first wee this morning. My male was going really mad for her, crunching his teeth and everything after he had a sniff. I'm not too concerned about spaying, I just don't want to have to leave her overnight or a late night spay. I'd rather spay than AB to be honest as she isn't going to be bred again. Jeez, my dogs are falling to pieces this month!! And 4 pm isn't coming quick enough!! I've even baked a cake to take my mind off it!!

My old girl had open Pyo. my neutered boy would not leave her alone. I got back from work and found a messy kitchen, and pus coming out of her.
I rang the vet and took her in (this was about 6.30pm)
He checked her over, agreed it was open Pyo, and booked her into be spayed the next day.
She was spayed the next day and recovered well. She was about 9 at the time.
HTH
and good luck
Lea.

Cody is fine. She is going through a phantom pregnancy and producing milk(I never even checked!!) but has no infection. Her discharge is normal, temp normal, behaviour normal, everything but the vet gave her syolux antibiotics just incase. Thanks for listening yesterday, I was a bit worried!!
So, I think the boy needs his bits and pieces off!!
Pleased to hear its nothing more sinister. Big relief for you xx

Very pleased to hear that she's okay, but I would implore you that if she is not a valuable breeding bitch to have her spayed or possibly breed from her and then spay.
I've had 3 bitches display these symptoms, along with phantom pregnancy and go on to have pyometra with none of the textbook symptoms.
In my experience the hormonal response around the season becomes more pronounced. She will highly likely be like this again next season.
I always thought spaying was a money spinning vet procedure, but I nearly lost my old girl with a 'highly unlikely' pyometra, which then damaged her heart. If you can do, I'd spay her and give yourself peace of mind, or if not, try to breed from her - it may not take if her uterus is damaged as with one of mine, and then spay.
