One of our puppies became poorly last week.He went to his new home on the 7 th September. All puppies were well, stools and urine fine, eating well .When we met up for the second innoculation at my vets, all puppies were well,a few loose stools but we expected that with young pups so my self and 2 other new puppy owners cut out dry food and fed Barf. All were having normal stools within 48 hours. My 2 are still.Good stools and training going well as are 2 of the other pups. However this other puppy began to get more diahorreah and a little blood. The vet diagnosed colitis. The next day he started vomiting and becamr dehydrated so was taken back to the vets and put on a drip overnight. The new owner told me he ate a quantity of ferret food.I presumed this was the cause of the issue.A stool sample was taken at a later date and the results came back tonight as showing the Coccidia parasite.I know this is common but I feel really sorry for the new owners.I guess I will never know were this came from though I know it comes from faeces.Mum didn't mix with my other dogs My own included and only went in a secure garden.Nor did she mix with my 2 cats. The puppies only had contact with mum.Mum and puppies were treated correctly with panacur as per instructions. All area were distinfected twice daily and hygeine was as good as I could possible get- no outside shoes/hand rub etc.Is it likely the issue came from my household,am I to blame or could this have come else where (new owners have ferrets,chucks/ducks and other dogs who have contact since going with them.)Could this be a coincidence,is it that common, has something else made the puppy poorly? He still has occasional loose stools and is on antibiotics for 3 weeks(though this could cause loose stools) I have advised pro botic yogurt for the tummy.
