How soon after a show would one expect to see the write up. My boy got 2nd at Belfast on Sunday and I would like to keep a look out for what the judge thought of him...but I don't want to be buying papers if he's not in them..:-)

Cheers

It seems to be very variable - a couple of weeks, to a few months!  I decided (for the same reason as you) to subscribe as a trial to ourdogs for about £15 for two months... only for the critique I wanted to be published in Dog World instead!  Not going to subscribe to that as well, so will have to hope it gets onto our dogs eventually.  I find it all a real nuisance as I seldom have time to read much more than the breed notes and show report.

I'd be happy to keep an eye out for it online in ourdogs if you'd like and can send it to you, then if you want to go out and buy the hard copy you'll know which issue it's in (pm me the details if you want).  Alternatively maybe you could keep sneakily checking in the newsagents before buying :-D

And very well done on your 2nd!

Waited over a year for Manchester 2010 critique.

There is no simple answer but a judge has upto a month to submit their critique, to at least one of the weekly papers. It is then upto the papers when it gets printed, I have noted recently that there was a Crufts critique in & in this weeks DW there was one for Bath which was end of May.

As said, can be a couple of weeks or months or as for 2 of my critiques from April - well I am still waiting.I think its dreadful that some judges can not be bothered. We pay our entry fee, give the judge the respect of our entries and then no critique however good or bad.The K.C warns judges that they must submit critiques to either of the 2 weeklies but rarely do the KC follow this up.

We had a very well known judge exhibitor in march for our open show and when she was chased up recently she said she doesn't have the time for critiques, answer to that is then why bother taking the appointments , was very disappointed to her attitude :-(

Boody,

If she is judging champ shows she should be hauled up before the KC and given a full court martial. Disgraceful.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 27.09.11 10:38 UTC
then she must have plenty fo money as the KC will impose £50 fines.  They require crits for champ shows and breed club open shows.

I think a complaint has now been sent to KC, I must say I was very surprised at the indifference of it all but I guess they've let their importance go to their head.

I don't think money is of any issue to this judge, they're rolling in it lol.

I know in the rules, it says a critique has to be done but it may depend on the contract & if as part of her contract, it is agreed between her & the club she doesnt do a crit then that could be a possibility?? I dont know if this has ever been done recently but you never know.

For some other postees, It is very easy to blame the judges but it just might be the press & a judge only has to submit to 1, not both papers. Although with email...as long as the judge has both address & even the secretaries, it's just as easy to cc to all then they have covered themselves.....much different before computers when it had to be either handwritten(including ease of reading!!) or typed thrice!!!!

I'm on our comitee hence I know the judge was supposed too, like I say though steps are being made to resolve this and I doubt  will have done  any favors with the club. The judge has been asked on 3 occasions and has given the same response, I find it lazy and bad mannered.

I think if a judge doesn't bother to do critiques then they should be band from judging by the KC. One was chased up a few years ago by the KC but never bothered to put it in and never bothered since when he has judged.

I also find it very frustrating that some judges simply don't bother to send in their critiques...the ones that are the worse are well known for it and the comment "Oh save your breath you won't get one from him/her". Personally I feel like saying in the ring to the judge "Are you going to send in your critique? If not then I'm not going to waste my time standing before you whilst you scribble what could be your shopping list!"

Really don't think a judge has finished the job until they have written their critique, I know I don't. And not only do I hope that my opinion may be of help to the exhibitor I find it very useful myself as you need to consider why you liked or disliked a dog and how well your entry fitted the standard and how the exhibits strong and weak points have changed since the last time you judged the breed.

Just wondering if critiques are out for Belfast yet? There seemed to be a list on Our Dogs website and it was on the list but since I'm not a member I can't see if it is done or pending publication..

If it is out can you let me know so I can go and buy the paper..:-)

Thanks
