Please can someone help. My Westie Riley has just started to itch, he is 4 now and we have had no problems before. He has devolped a few spots but he hates it when you go to look at them. He is well in himself but he sort of jumps like he has a really bad itch. We can not see any flees and I comb him all the time, but recently the comb looks like it has alot of dead skin.
Any help would be much appreciated

What about trying adding fish oil to his diet to help with the dry skin

Sharon - I would suggest a visit to the vet is in order.
Yumega plus from Pets at Home is good (it is an oil supplement that you add to food).
Malacetic shampoo from the vet is also very good.

Vet first, you need to know what is causing the problem before you can treat it, you could be giving oil and he could have an allergy to oil, so vet first always.

Does he go where Rabbits go, as he could have Rabbit mites, Cheyletela (sp) also known as walking Dandruff, this can make a dog extremely itchy.
A vet should be able to confirm if this is the issue.

Have you changed his food, Shampoo?
It has been very very wet and the mould grows at this time of the year.

Hi Sharon. I used to have a westie until recently.
It is common for westies to have skin conditions. I was given a special shampoo by the vets called Melasab. I don't know if i spelt that correctly, but it defiantly worked! It does cost a bit more then normal stuff but it is pretty good.
As previously mentioned on the other replies, get the vet to have a look at him as this is very uncomfortable for the dog.
What do you feed him on? Does he have regular spot on flea treatment like Frontline? Does he lick chew his paws and feet, and if he does has the hair turned pink? Do you use carpet powders or conditioner on his bedding when you wash it. Are his ears ok? I agree you should go to the vet but many just say "Oh Westie skin".
