Hi All,

I'm looking for a puppy (or dog!) class/club to take Nando to. We are getting on well with his training (He has done re-call, walking to heel, sit, down and I started stay with him today too) but I want somewhere to take him to practice around other dogs as well as something a bit more advanced for him. I'm still unsure whether I want to do schutzhund with him and I don't wish to do agility whilst he is still so young because of his hips.

He is a 13wk old GSD.

I can highly recommend Elaine Harford.  She taught me a lot about dog training, when I was a total clueless newby.  She's very gentle and kind too, no harsh methods.  It's been over 4 years since I went to one of her classes, which used to be held in the old Scout hut in Moreton... this has since changed into a children's playgroup though so not sure where she holds them now.  Her details (copied below) are still on the KC website, so I assume she's still going:

(hope this is allowed, just copied and pasted from KC)

Unfortunately the Alsation club is fully booked for it's next class- they did recommend me to another lady who I am waiting on a reply from, though.

I have already had a look at APDT site and there is only one class on the Wirral (Erica Peachey's) the problem is that it's on a night that my Mum can't take me to. I could arrange alternative transport but I want my Mum to go to the classes as much as I want Nando to go as she needs just as much training as Nando!

Didn't think to have a look at the KC site... will have a look!

Thanks Clare, will get in touch with Elaine Harford. The name 'Teamwork Training' rings a bell!

Thank you, will have a good look at their website. Still undecided on schutzhund but I do want to do something 'more' with him as he is a great dog and he is excelling all of my expectations in the early stages of training!

Bolton schutzhund club are starting to run puppy classes starting tomorrow at Kenyon Hall Farm, winwick Lane, Warrington, if you are interested Josh. Just google Bolton Schutzhund club, plus the club trains for the BH you dont have to do full schutzhund, BH is for obedience etc.

Hi Annastasia,

Thanks for the info but I'm not sure I can make it on a Saturday. I'm quite limited in when/where I can travel as at the minute I rely on parents to drive me to places.d I can drive but at the moment finances don't allow for my own car. I may have to wait to take him to schutzhund until I have my own car. I will keep them in mine, though.

Has anyone ever used this dog trainer? Have had about three people recommend him but they are just people I've met in the park so no idea if they know what they're talking about! http://www.k9trainingyouandyourdog.co.uk/

all I would say is make sure he is really using positive methods treats prise etc and go and watch a couple of classes. I have had couple of unfortunate experiences with ex police handlers who seem to forget that the needs of the general public and their dogs are different to that of the police force.
No offense meant to any of our police or handlers on here its just my personal experience.
