How long would you expect a bitch to bleed after having a litter ?
The pups are 8 weeks old now and the bitch is still losing some mucusey stringy blood - red rather than brown. I took her to the vet for a check over last week and the vet doesn't seem concerned and said to give her a while longer. It was a litter of 7 good sized pups and she is a medium sized pastoral breed.
She is well in herself, playing and running. Eating well and regaining her figure. There is no smell from her and her temperature is normal.
How long would you leave it before taking her back?

Some do bleed for longer than others, the more placental beds to heal over the longer it takes, provided there is no nasty smell, temp remains normal and she is well in herself then I wouldn't take her back to the vets unless you became concerned.

I have had them go on with intermittent healthy discharge for up to 3 months after the pups, especially if the labour was protracted or larger litter.

Hi
They definately all vary a lot.  My bitch had slight blood loss up until 11 weeks.

Thanks for your replies. I shall just keep an eye on the situation.
I wasn't really worried about her as there is clearly no infection or anything. But didn't want to lull myself into a false sense of security just in case - if that makes sense lol
