Hi all. Sheena is in labour. Heavy breathing, unsettled and is losing black fluid like tar. Is this black stuff normal. My other dog didn't lose any but I'm sure my sister said her dog had some.

No i would not be happy with that norms are thin discharge ,light green,light pink,or clear,
I would give your vet a ring straight away and see what he/she has to say they might tell you to leave her an houror so or might wish to see her and check her over better to be safe then sorry.

Roxie had a clear like mucas discharge right before she had her pups and now she has a black discharge and the vet said that it is normal and should last for about 6 weeks, needless to say i haven't scotch gaurded my carpet and because she so big its messy....:)

Hi Sharon, That black fluid like stuff in normal if the dog is in labor and having the puppies. Rottweilers are notorious for that color of fluid at first. But if the color fluid is coming out before birth that means that one of the sacks are broken inside. Rottweiler's are the only breed I have seen this in. I know from the experience and research I have done on this breed.
