Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / what r the chances of pregnancy with a 2 minute slip mating (locked)
- By hatemzalloum [jo] Date 14.09.11 08:22 UTC
To make a long story short, we managed to have one 2 minute slip mating on day 13 of the bitches heat, which was on the 8th of this month. she is out of it now! What are the chances of pregnancy?
Thanking you in advance :)

Do you mean the whole mating only took 2 minutes or do you mean there was a tie for 2 minutes before the slip?
- By hatemzalloum [jo] Date 14.09.11 08:29 UTC
the whole thing took 2 to 3 minutes only! There was no tie at all..
- By STARRYEYES Date 14.09.11 08:38 UTC
well I had 2 litters from similar matings!

Think it is going to depend on the individual stud some go through the whole thing very quickly others take longer, for you it is a case of wait and see. There is always a chance that the bitch will not take however text book the mating where as it is possible that a bitch will be in whelp even when it seems the dog did no more than dip a toe in the water.

Thanks STARRYEYES :) this is great news.. fingers crossed!

I had a sucessful slip mating a few years ago.Went on to have 5 healthy pups. Good luck I know how hard the waiting is - I had to endure over 2 years with my girl for a successful whelp.Byt the 5 were well worth the wait.

I bet it was well worth it :) thank you for reaffirming!

We're due our first litter in almost 5 ys from a similar mating, maiden  stud, bitch been mated before but have to say he was huge for the breed so was happy with a slip lol.

Forgot to mention that the dog's bits stayed out for about 5 min b4 all went back to place! a couple of drops went down from him after he went out ... sorry if the description is a bit graphic.

Don't worry about the description.  It helps people come up with a reasonable assessment for you.  My main boy also stays very engorged for quite some time afterwards.

It sounds to me as if he delivered some of the goods, so there is no reason for you not to hope.

As this is the second week after the slip mating took place! is there any pregnancy sign i should be looking for?
thank you in advance :)
- By Brainless [gb] Date 22.09.11 09:09 UTC
You are very unlikely to see positive pregnancy signs until about 5 weeks.

Before that the signs are the same as for phantom pregnancy.  So really before a scan at around 4 weeks you will be guessing/hoping.

>is there any pregnancy sign i should be looking for

Agree with Barbara.  It is far too early, you would only be guessing/hoping.  I get an inkling with my own bitches around day 21, but I have to be honest, I doubt very much that someone without experience would know.  Most of my girls don't show until the very end.

I would tell you to practise patience!  :-)   But it's hard isn't it?  :-)

Thank you Barbara & Jean for the input :) I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Will keep you posted of the progress as it happens...

It sure is hard to practice patience LOL.. This is day 21, was wondering what kind of inkling do you get with your bitches? Let me look too :)
Thanks you all again!

Nothing that couldn't also be explained due to a phantom or normal post seasonal stuff, but depends on your bitch really.

Mine doesn't normally get standy up nipples post season, but this time they just started to stand and get a bit pink, and that really was the main sign.  I knew it could still be post season, or phantom, but as it was different from her normal post-season it made me hopeful.  And as it turned out she was pregnant.

Just another week and you should be able to scan for confirmation.  The waiting to find out is the hardest part after the waiting for her to come in season.

While mine never alter in size, they take on a totally different hue.  I understand from MsTemeraire that the same happens in cats.

just for the record, she turned out to be empty! thank you all very much for your valuable input :) all the best...

Thanks for posting the outcome.

Here's hoping you have better luck next time.  :-)

Sorry to her she didn't catch.
Will you try her again?
I had a bitch miss twice in a row.

A tie is a tie, whether 3 mins or 20 mins so your chances are good - well, if they are not good, it's not because of the tie, it would be because of the timing - assuming you've got the timing right, the chances are the same as any other breeding.
