10mth old Buddy is chasing his tail frequently but not continuously. Neighbour told me months ago that this was a sign of worms. As he was already on puppy wormers at the time and was not scraping his bottom along the floor or showed any signs of worms in his poo i ignored his advice. However 5 days ago i did spot what looked like worms and i gave Buddy one Drontral plus tablet. He still chases his tail but it looks like fun for him. This morning (i'm sorry if this sounds horrible for those with weak tummies) he pooed normally then continued to bear down throughout the length of the walk. He looked to be having trouble emptying himself (his anus was wide open) and was scraping his bottom on the floor. There was no signs of worms and he acted normally after i eventually had to clean him up. He's eating ok and playing ok and there has not been any other signs of worms since the above episode.
Sorry if above is too much for some readers.
Question--- do dogs chase their tails for fun OR IS IT a sign of worms.?

It can also be a sign the anal glands are impacted.....

Hi
It could also mean that your pup has a longer then average tail and is catching sight of its tail out of the corrner of his eye i have seen this in staffords with longer then avarage tails,
Do not encorrage this as it can become habbit forming.
When evry possible destract him onto a diffrent line of thinking.

I agree that it could be his anal glands. My dog has had them emptied by the Vet twice already and we have only had him for four months. When they are full he bites the base of his tail, chases his tail sometimes and generally looks at his bum with a distressed look on his face.
I think this can also be a sign of stress or something that the dog does to calm himself down, like yawning. HTH
