This past weekend I wormed all my dogs with Drontal Plus as usual. They aren't keen to eat it when I crush it up and mix it with their food, so I popped the the tablets to the back of their throats. Everyone was fine except Rory who vomited twice over the course of the morning.

He's done this before, so does anyone have any suggestions for a good quality alternative to Drontal Plus?

when i went to the vets for rivers second jab,the nurse was going to give her millbemax wormer till i told her id heard collies shouldnt be given it-she hadnt heard of this but checked with the vet who confirmed it and i came away with drontal plus.always assuming you havnt got collies, could you try millbemax?

I've just used Plerion 10 broad spectrum wormer bought from Vetuk, cheaper than Drontal, it's a big meaty chewy thing and they eat it like a treat.

I wouldn't give an injection AND a wormer at the same time though :-(  One is enough for their immune systems to cope with - but well done for knowing that some herding dogs - not just collies - have a gene which means ivermectin (in milbemax and immodium!) affects them very badly.  Rough Collies, shelties and a host of other dogs may be affected - there is a DNA test which can be done now to identify those affected.

Two of my dogs have been sick both times they have had Drontal Plus.  I guess it didn't agree with them.  They are fine with milbemax so that's what I use, but my dogs are Labs - I've heard the same thing about not giving it to Collies (sorry I don't know your breed!).

no,i didnt think it was a good idea to give both at the same time,so i accepted the wormer and gave it a week later, vets dont tell you though,or at least mine doesnt, and i have to admit, ive not always known, used to trust vets implicitly!Didnt realise its in immodium as well, another thing to write in my note book,is that the same stuff in advocate, too,i wonder?
