Topic Dog Boards / General / Season question

Hi

I have a just turned 11month old Labradoodle.  She appears to be in season and I wondered if this is normal.  She had her first season at just after 8 months and the Vet at the time told me she would not come into season for another 6 months and to get her spayed between the times - ie next week.  Is this normal to have a season so close together?

Thanks and apologies for my ignorance!

Nicola

There is no way for knowing how long a bitch will go between seasons until she has had about 3 and is fully adult and settled into a rhythm. Some dogs go only 4 months other over 12 between seasons so it is a case of wait and see.

Vets are amazing no two bitches are the same any more than any two girls, but I would wait till she is at least 18 months anyway.

Bitches can be irregular to start with and I've had one that was just like this. After the second season they became regular -although like Nova says it's not always 6 months, it can be 5 months or 7 months or even more, so always best to know the bitch's cycle first. In any event you will now need to wait at least another 3 months before spaying.

Even when seasons are fairly established they can suddenly surprise you.One of my girls came into season 2 months after her last when I bought a new puppy into the fold.

oh god all confusing.  We have had a mature entire male staying.  He has gone home now so maybe that made her come into season then.  Now need to make arrangements to board her or my immature entire male for the reminder of her season.

Thanks

My girl was 8.5months for her first and then 7 months later then she would add a week to each gap till a female joined the clan who brings everyone in with her every 7-8 months.

Just wondering if it's an open pyo?   Or cystitis?
