Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Uneven growth in puppy has affected his movement

Hi,
My 7 month old Vizsla puppy has uneven growth that is affecting his rear movement. Can anyone tell my approximately how long it will take before this is rectified i.e. his front has caught up?  I do appreciate that it will vary from dog to dog, but a rough idea would help planning ahead for shows.  I don't want to waste my time and money entering more Ch Shows until this is sorted. He had such lovely movement too, so fingers crossed it will return given time.

Best ask his breeder as they will know far more about their own lines than we do. For example in my breed we would expect that by 7 months the growth of the long bones would have almost finished and certainly in most puppies they would have a level topline by then.

I don't know Nova as quite a few pups of our breed at 6 - 7 months run bum high I would say most have levelled out by 9 months.  There are some lines that rarely seem to do this, but most pups do to some extent at 5 - 6 months.

To the original poster I would say this is likely to be breed and lien specific, so if showing against other pups of the same age they are likely to be similar and a judge will take age into account in puppy classes.

Will bow to you Brainless, some while since I had a pup in the house. It is true that in the ring I would not take any notice of a pup being bum high but was thinking that by at least 8 months most are at full hight but I could be wrong there as well and I have had one that grew till it was 12months, but still not quite enough unfortunately.

Agree with Brainless, pups in my breed are often bum high until around 9 months, but as Nova said best see if your breeder has advice on the specific line.
