Incurin is the estrogen hormone med, in tablet form, which keeps the bladder sphincter 'lively' and..
Proplalin is the med which acts on the receptors in the sphincter to increase tone.
Often a balance of the two will do the trick.

Agree that if the cause is spaying then Incurin and/or Proplalin should improve matters but they do have the side effect of increased risk of UTI but also in some bitches coat improvements.

Who is your new avatar Nova? Will you be at the NECGB show on Saturday?
Try cranberry tablets. They have proved a huge success with my old girl who has spay incontinence.

Who is your new avatar Nova? That's my Elli - Barlestone Eliza of T - no longer with us sadly but it was she who started me showing - she is a pup in the photo. taken after she won BP and the club show.
Will you be at the NECGB show on Saturday? Yes, doing M.C./steward - will I get to see some of your latest offerings?

Would suggest you ask a vet before giving Cranberry tables - there are times and conditions where this is not a good idea.

As far as I know both the girls (My Safi and Sue Wilson's Rosie) at Richmond yesterday, should be there and also Sally's Zena (who was at HCEA as a baby) should be debuting. They will be 7 months and 1 day old, LOL.
thankyou, will pass on the names to my friend, she can suggest them to her vet if shes not already tried them, definately worth a try!

Sounds like she's tried incurin - my dobe bitch had those first and it made no difference to her whatsoever.
She's since been on propalin from about 2/3 years old and it keeps her totally dry - she's now 10 and has been on full dose all that time. I've tried the herbs from CSJ, cranberry and I've been recommended cornsilk by US dobe owners (although I've never tried that one).
I also find the food makes a difference - for Soli, the less processed/more meat content it has, the lower I can keep her dose. If she's on very cheap food or cereal as the first ingredient, her dose has to go as high as 1.2ml twice a day (0.2ml over the recommended), but she's on 1ml at the mo on a 14% meat diet; and it can go right down to 0.5ml on a raw diet, even with commercial treats - it really can help.

My two Dobe bitches are on Propalin and it works fine.
My vet said it was unusual when bitch 1 had to have it after spaying. Done 2 was then spayed and she is now on it!!
Seems quite common in spayed bitches.
thankyou,i will pass on the info, and the food advice!
> Seems quite common in spayed bitches.
Very common in spayed dobes, rotties and boxers too, and other large breed bitches.
I know a lot of dobes and propalin is what most use. Incurin is a newer treatment, and normally offered if Propalin doesn't work.
I've got a homeopathic drop for my girl, works well and doesn't have to take it all the time. I can get the name of it when I pop back home on Friday as can't remember it.
thankyou, reikiangel,if you will, please, she was all for giving up and keeping the poor thing in the shed!luckily, theyre her husbands "babies"(theyve got 3)and he was delighted when i told him not to give up,that i was sure the vet could help,.
