Well its time to see off my eldest Chris to Uni tomorrow, he's not going far away but I know I will be blubbing all day and embarassing the **ll out of him, hope I'm not the only one LOL.
Where do the years go? it seems only five minutes since I was blubbing on his first day at infants. Not sure why I am getting so emotional about it as I' m extremely proud of his achievements and he is the first of our immediate families to go to Uni :-) so surely I should be pleased for him.

:-D :-D Oh dear, well he is all grown up now, it is probably that which is bringing tears, your role as 'carer' mum is over.

I've never blubbered at all from Nursery, Primary, Secondary or College to Uni, do you know why because if my child is happy, I'm happy. :-) I was like a kid in a candy store when we were looking at the Uni's, some of the buildings are just stunning aren't they? My excitement rubs off on my boys, I was the same with the new schools they went into and they have always walked in confidently and with no worries.

If everything is fine and dandy where he is going you can let go and be happy for your son, smile for him it's a great adventure, let him see your face full of pride, not tears at the loss of your little boy.

You love him so much so try really hard to let him see your happiness, you can show happy tears but get those others in check. :-)

I saw my youngest off laughing, drove out of the car park with OH driving and I howlled all the way home from Kent to Hampshire.

Saw eldest off to NZ again all smiles and didnt make the exit door before I was off, and that lasted weeks.

Now Id howl if they came back - its part of being a Mum!!

When I saw my boy of it was 10 years ago............
All I could see were the two blocks of flats for student 'halls of residence', looked just like the twin towers to me!
It should have been a pleasure but that was torment for me realising he would be fending for himself come what may, not that I expected planes to fly through them just I was not in control for him. :(

Well just got back, kept the tears in check until a couple when leaving LOL, he seems really happy with his choice :-) Now I need to tackle his room EEK! He has given up his room for his sister (on the condition she takes good care of his bearded dragons! :-) ) so she cant wait to get started and swapped over. Thanks all :-)

Noooo - you want to discourage that :) My son only came home in the holidays. The first year he tried to make his clothes and bedding last all term as it was a 'long' walk to the washing machines - the problem was solved once he got a girlfriend :) :) Girls are much easier :)

My smelly son was advised by others that febreeze is what to use to save the need for much washing, and yes he invested in and used it, bleurgh.

ok NOW the tears can start :-)!

When my oldest son went to off to university I told him he wouldn't be getting a lift till he tidied his room out. He didn't get up till 2pm, then spent 2 hours fretting and finally a friend of mine took pity on him and helped him sort out his stuff...his younger brother was straight in there as soon as he'd gone! Now 5 years later he's gone and the older one has boomeranged back. I had this vision it would just be me, the hens and the dogs...

:) Our son and daughter both went off to uni. We had the house to ourselves for several years until son's girlfriend moved in :) Only supposed to be for a few months while she started a new job and found a place to live. She stayed nearly two years before moving out (just her, son was still at uni doing a PhD). She and son got married and we now count ourselves fortunate to have had the opportunity to build a good relationship with our DIL :) :)

Awww I know how you feel, I am hopeless :(
When my son went on his expedition charity trip before uni the hardest thing I had to do was hand my 6'2 young man over to a 5' woman with a clipboard at gatwick airport whilst I was trying to act all cheery excited and positive! As soon as I had said goodbye and turned my back I couldnt look back as the tears wouldnt stop and I could hardly breathe for the suffocating sobs! The same when we took him to Uni. Its the same now all the years on after hes graduated, studied further at college and is now working hundreds of miles away...when he comes home and then goes back...my heart breaks all over again. Once your baby always your baby. I miss him and thats okay, I'm his Mum. You miss yours, your his Mum! Mind you, there will probabley be times you will hear of at uni when you think thank goodness hes there and not here!! Lol!
