Thank you in advance for putting up with my frankly silly questions!
My bitch has always been crate-trained well and has never, ever howled before. Well last night she woke me up at 12am howling like a siren, and I thought it was our other dog, who's crated with her. Well tonight we're sat here watching a film, and I hear it again, go and check...and it's her! Has anyone else's bitch started yowling like this when mated or preggo? She also threw up her breakfast this mid-morning, so has had some rice and a little kibble.
Any advice would be so gratefully received, thank you in advance!
Hahaha, perhaps I should tell her that! 'Girls give birth going to the toilet, Maisy, suck it up.'
She doesn't have pups yet, and though she does give a whinney to talk to me sometimes, perhaps she was just really in need of a hug then!
Both dogs are crated at night (unless I fancy a snuggle and want them in bed with me) because I have a six year old brother who sleeps with the door open. Both are small enough to leap onto his bed and steal toys, and though they're lovely with him, I never leave them alone with him, so it would be unsafe to have them loose when we're getting ready for bed and it's just easier to pop them in for the night. They've always been crate-trained from puppyhood and have no trouble whatsoever with it. It wasn't like we were thinking 'Oh ok, we'll watch a film and shut them away.', it was nearly 12pm at night, and we were getting ready to sleep. Don't worry, I adore them and love to have them with me.
She's used to not being crated as at least a once a week they sleep in our bed with us, so won't have a problem there when she's whelped, but I will pop a bed in the living room so that she's used to sleeping in here on the floor (she usually sleeps on our laps on the sofa), I hadn't considered that so thanks. I hadn't thought of her disliking being close to Freddy, our neutered boy, as she often curls up with him on our laps or on the arm chair with me. I'll see if we can go through tonight without her wailing, if not, I'll pop the crate in our sleeping quarters and see if that helps.
Thanks folks!
