Have a look at Craghopper as they usually have a sale on, or Field and Trek which are a clearing house for all things outdoor, I got a smashing pair of waterproof over trousers by Berghaus, reduced from £65 to £25, or if you want mega warm and don't mind rustling while you walk have a look at the ski section in TKMaxx for sking gear.

go to a good shooting shop and look at makes like deerhunter, seeland, harkilla, jahti jaht or fjall raven. All are quality makes designed for prolonged use in the shooting field. i have a pair of each of the above that I use for excercising my hounds and for my work as well as shooting and stalking. they are unbeatable and unlike those designed for "rambling" etc, they are designed to work and to last.

Another vote for Craghoppers, hubby never buys anything else for his long distance footpath walks, and I find them nice for casual trousers too, specially the zip offs!

Berghaus
Rab
Paramo Cascada

I have had all of these and the oldest of these has lasted me 8 years so far and going as well as ever. Avoid the rustly ones, they drive you mad walking. My favourites are the Paramo, can't praise them enough as a product and as a company.

Craghoppers do a winter kiwi fleece lined trouser which although not waterproof is water repellent. They are very warm so I don't wear them unless it's bitter cold and they do 3 lengths as well. Not too expensive especially if you buy them when they're on sale.

If you have a generous bum and smaller waist then Craghoppers and similar, 'mainstream' makes are unlikely to fit, at they give you loads of waistband at the back but pull in uncomfortably across the tummy.   If this is the case for you try Sprayway.  Dearer than the others but a beautiful fit, mine have two layers, a very thin fleece that makes it nice and warm inside with a waterproof skin over the top.  And they last well two, I bought mine two years ago but they are so comfortable I often wear them as normal trousers as they don't look as casual as the likes of craghopper.  Despite this they are still like new and I can see years of use in them making them well worth the initial extra cost.

I have the Craghopper Kiwi's too, lovely and warm, dry very quickly and great for short a$$es like me.
