hi everyone im new to posting although not to champdogs itself.
I just thought i would tell you about our morning school run, everyday
my 2 malamutes and my 3 children walk the same route to school
but today we have 3inches of snow.i was asked three times where i got my dogs
how wonderfull they look and how they were going to get one.I replyed
politely and thought will they still say this when both dogs shake off
in the kitchen when i get home after another hour of playing in the
pretty snow . sorry if you think that im having a moan but i wounderd
if any one else has the same experience

I have a Mal and we took him to Lincoln yesterday and got the same reaction :) It is snowing here now and he has just come in from the garden with filthy paws and has shaken ALL the snow off his back and onto the TV , fire , PC Desk , TV etc etc ;)

Yes, constantly! I'm biased, bu there's nothing as beautiful as a mal in full winter coat. People constantly ask where they can get one and I'm getting quite good at putting people off! We had work colleagues round a while ago, as they were interested in mals and were convinced they wanted one. The wife made a comment that she liked a clean and tidy house, so I took her into the living room where my dogs live and showed her the once green carpet and the muddy marks on the wall where they had shook themselves that morning. Haven't seen them since :D

they do seem to get 'extra' second looks when there is snow....and then there are all the "lost your sledge luv" comments from men who always think they are the first to say it....
I rattle off the list of husky damage whenever anyone says how cute they are...

thank god for washable sofa covers!

I'm far too in love with my mal to notice anyone elses reaction at this point in time :)He looks amazing in snow covered fields. He kept trying to chase the bits of loose snow. He's not so keen on the ice though, he sat down and refused to walk on it. He got startled by his first pheasant today,If I hadn't been holding the lead I'm sure he would've ran all the way home :D
I do find the interest other people show in him quite daunting sometimes, all the recent dog thefts are a worry. In my opinion though, no other breed compares so I guess Taiko will have to get used to the adoring fans :D

Isn't snow wonderful? Our mal won't come in and runs off and hides when we try and get him in:)
I couldn't build a snowman in the back garden as he kept coming up and pouncing on it with great glee. So I built one in the front and guess what - as soon as we took him out for his walk this afternoon, yes, it was pulverised on the way to the car:D
He has also taken great delight in jumping into iced over puddles and pulling the ice out. I have given up on washing the kitchen floor until the snow goes.;)
They do seem to look even nicer than ever in the snow and yes, we are getting loads of admiration as well. It goes to Chewi's head a bit and he woo-woos at everyone he sees, saying 'look at me - aren't I the handsomest Malamute ever?'

P.S. Have you noticed how many horrid words start with mal.... such as malevolent, malodorous, malnutrition (as if), maladjusted. I rest my case. We chose malamutes, so we have to put up with the darlings (in my case, with immense enjoyment most of the time)

Take heart, Jean....the words and prefixes come from two separate language families and mean nothing alike ;) :D

The prefix "mal" originates from Latin to convey 'ill' or 'not well' ...such as maladjusted or maltreated.
But it is a cute analogy ;)
