Topic Other Boards / Foo / Sunflower seed to feed wild birds

Hi,

Do you have to do anything to sunflower seed before feeding it to wild birds?  Do you feed it just as it comes off the plant, or does it have to be dried first? Thanks. :)

I tend to keep them indoors and dry them. There is a lot of food around for the birds at the moment, so I save them for the autumn when food is getting scarcer :) I attach them to a bit of string and hang them from the bird table.

Hi Daisy,

Thanks for that.:) Do you dry them in the oven on a very low heat, or do you just leave them spread out indoors on something, to dry naturally. Sorry for being such a numpty, but l have never tried to do my own before. :)

My sunflowers don't seem to have produced seed this year :-(

My first year of grapes off the vine are quite pathetic as well , loads of grapes bunches but grapes the size of pomegranate pip !! I think I got a dwarf variety :-D
