Welcome to the forum Sheena :-) Glad that you have decided to join us.
I'm also in need of a session too. John kindly gave me some telephone numbers for clinic's. If no one comes up with details here, I will post them when I find them. I have put them in a Safe place and have forgotten where that is  lol
Leigh
There is a vets that do regular eye testing in Heathfield, Sussex. (Not too far), I'll dig out the phone number for you.
Lorna

If you contact the British Veterinary Association, they can send you a list of the panelists, and with luck one will be near you. It is cheaper if you go to a Group session, these are advertised in the back of the weekly Dog World.

Far and away the nearest eye testing to you is:-
J. J. Yellowley BVSc CertOphthal MRCVS
Rosemount Veterinary Hospital
24 Old Woking Road
West Byfleet
Surry
KT14 6HP
Phone 01932 341058
Checking it on Autoroute shows it to be around 16.1 miles from you!
Give them a ring because he may not be there every day. Also, as Brainless says, check the dog press because group sessions such as the one's Polly and I run charge quite a bit less. We have no surgery overheads to cover.

That was the one at 16.1 miles from you! just put the other posting down to the addled brain of a poor old man! Sorry

Leigh, this is also for Professor Foster but a different address:

He also does a clinic at a vets in Heathfield about every 2 months. Can't find the address but will keep looking.
If you can wait till Spring, our lab club run a group session.

We have used Mr Foster at Barton Veterinary Hospital, Canterbury, but we had heard he had retired!
This information board is great, thanks!

He has retired from the practice and from day to day work but may well still do an occasional eye clinic.

He's still listed on the 2001 list so it's quite likely he's "Keeping his hand in" I would phone and the surgery will be able to tell you the latest state of play and if he has retired they will almost certainly be able to tell you the alternatives.
When you go, (to whoever) you need to take your KC registration certificate and the ophthalmologist will then know what to test for. The only exception to this is depending on the breed, if a once in a lifetime test is required he will need to know this has not been done and is needed. This is for a test such as for Glaucoma but there are only a few breeds needing this.
Regards John
PS if you decide to phone this surgery can you please post to let me know if Mr Foster is in fact still testing so that I can update my records? :)
If anyone wants the Heathfield number please email me privately - or go to
eye examiners I would also be interested to learn if Mr Foster has retired completely so that I can update the site
TIA

It worked for me Christine, I'd never even noticed the "Find on this page" function until I saw it on your site! I shall be using it all the time now whilst on the Internet.
Best wishes, John
Mr Foster has retired due to ill health :-(( He has not yet been replaced so there are no testers currently in this corner of the country

The East Anglian Border Collie Club are holding an eye testing session at their champ show on December 15th at Wood Green Animal Centre, Godmanchester, Camb's. If any one would like further details, e-mail me privately and I'll pass on the secretary's contact details. All breeds are welcome as far as I know.

hi
does anyone know if there is an eye testing center or group in my local area as my vet is asken £70 per dog and i want 2 of them done, as i have heard that it can be cheapper if you goto a group sitting or show, thanks i live in the South Wales Valleys
Bobby;)

There is a standard set of fees for eye testing, twenty odd pounds, unless there is Gonioscopy which is extra. So I don't know what the vet is charging you for. Also eye testing can only be done by a BVA Eye Panelist. You can get a list from The BVA, health scheme section, list of fees also. You are right it is cheeper the more dogs there are, also what many don't realise is that retesting of dogs over 8 also carries a lower fee!

Whew!! Thanks for setting the difference in fees straight. I know that I paid $15 in the US at the dog club arranged clinics for testing and was cringing at the thought of paying £70 (over 7 times as much) here. What is the minimum age here in the UK for eye testing?
Minimum age for testing - 4 weeks (whether this depends on condition I don't know)

Bobby, geography isn't my strong point! You have 3 BVA Examiners in Wales. J Cormie, Blackwood Gwent - 01495 222383. H Williams, Haverfordwest Pembrokeshire - 01437 532274 and Mrs Hubbard Caemarfon Gwynedd - 01286 673026. If you ring the one nearest to you, they will give you the exact charges and any other information that will help you. The charges that you have been quoted sound rather expensive.

hi all
Thank you Val I have also found the number for the one in Gwent, and i am so glad that i can have it done cheapper than my vet was saying, when i went to a local vet and asked him about it he told me that they dont do it there but he can call someone to his place to do it for me and that would cost £70 per dog, so i think that i was paying for someone travil exspence??? Since then i have changed Vets!!
Bobby
Hi. Can anyone tell me if there are any B. V.A eye testing in Wales?
