Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / phanton with a pup in the house ?
- By susiecy [ro] Date 05.09.11 05:25 UTC
Well we`ve had Max 3wks now and although it was tough in the begining they have been playing/mouthing alot - both Bella and Max lie on their backs and the other one pounces on top...so i think she is accepting him.
my worry is now this morning ... Bella 8months came downstairs shaking with her favorite toy and crying (phantom preg?) she is now sat quietly on the sofa and to be honest has been rather `needy` the last few days.
Im worried how to treat this behaviour and what effect will it have on Max at 10wks he has little manners and just wants to jump on her and play all the time....
urgent advise plse.

Has she had a season, if not then this may be the start of it, they can become more clingy but should be encouraged to carry on as normal. Don't leave the 2 dogs alone unsupervised as she may turn on the pup if she isn't in the mood for his rough housing and he doesn't pick up on more subtle signals.

A phantom follows a season whether mated or not and most don't last the full 9 weeks but some do where they get milk and start nesting with toys which should be discouraged.

she had a season in june ...she is attached to one toy - should i take it off her and hide all of them? we have had extra walks today to keep her occupied. Just worried about little max.

Yes - having the toy around makes the phantom last longer.
