Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / IDEXX TESTING??
- By shoppy28 [gb] Date 01.07.11 15:01 UTC
Hi All,

I have tried 3 times to get my bitch to take and this time a friend suggested using the blood tests and getting her progestion levels tested by sending to idexx. The phone no i was given takes you through to a new list of options and i ended being told that i have to go through my vets. Can anyone help as I have heard this can cost the earth through the vets. I was told I could get a kit sent through or forms or something from idexx telling me the price etc. Thankyou in advance for any help :)

You can get the kits from IDEXX, but you still have to have the blood sample taken by your vet and then sent to idexx. i think it is around £25 + vets cost for taking the blood.

The price for a blood sample and a progesterone test is roughly £40-£60 at most vets..
If you want to avoid the vets consultation fee you could draw the blood sample yourself, if you know how to do it, then send it off to several specialists who will do the test for about £25-£35.
You will need 3-5 tests done in total to get the date 100% right, and even then there is no guarantee of a litter.

Thankyou gives me a rough idea on prices, but my question really is how do I get hold of Idexx to do the test, when i phoned the man said i had to go through a vet??? this confused me as people keep saying that they send off themselves .

Thanks x

We can send it off ourselves, but the vet needs to take the blood sample from the dog, so it makes sense to let the vet deal with the whole matter :-)

I get my results from Idexx, but have always let my vet do everything else... why keep a dog and bark myself :-P

Put in Idexx Wetherby into a search engine,  Wait a min. I've got some results somewhere will see if their phone numbers on there.

OK  01937 544 000 and ask for Larry.  He's the person who contacts you and he's lovely and really helpful.  Vet charged me £18.00 to take the bloods and it's about £27 for Idexx

If you pm me your address I will send you a couple of kits in the post if that helps, you then take your girl to your vet to take the blood
then fill in your details and larry rings you direct and advises on the next steps.

Illegal unless you're a vet or vet nurse (with a vet  on the premises), because that's considered an 'invasive procedure'.

I didn't know that jeangenie, but it's not something i would do myself anyway.
Thanks for telling me though.

Just had my first Idexx test done. Send it guaranteed, recorded delivery for tomorrow, such a pain in the bottom that its the weekend... but on the plus my vet didn't charge for taking bloods!!

Anyone else had results back on a saturday?
- By Malakai [gb] Date 02.09.11 11:34 UTC
Yes, I have. IDEXX do work Saturdays and I think I got the call soon after 1pm.
