Hi has any one got the receipie for liver cake had it once and now i cant find it.

8oz liver
4oz flour
2 eggs
2 cloves garlic
Whizz in liquidiser until yucky, cook in oven at gas4 180 degrees for 30/40 minutes.
Turn out cool cut up freeze
A dawdle, watch your fingers tho'

this may sound silly but why do you freeze it? is it just for longerterm storage?
and can a 13 week old pup on a dry food diet have it ?

Jude,
I tend to make 2/3 times this recipe and freeze so I have plenty. I would introduce it gradually to a pup and also cut back a bit on food to allow for it

the man in the training class I am going to look at tonight recommended liver cake with garlic in it, I just got the recipe off another site and looked here and waaa la there it is again, I am gonna make a batch up to use as treats in the class, as he said it was the best cos they like a treat that attracts them to the smell first... if that makes sense.. ...

Yes I have frozen it in the past in small bags and just got one out when I nedded it and I think that a pup on dried food can have it but only in small amounts

thanks Kim for the advice! I will have a go at this as my puppy is notfood orientated enough to assist with treats and training so maybe small amounts of this will help!
another silly Q.....do you use lambs or calves liver????

Any kind of liver is fine, i also use the liver i get from anglian meats and it works great.

Hi,everything went fine it was a long way for us ,we live in a small town called Chipping Sodbury which is near Bath and we had to go to Newcastle to pick her up,but we made a short holiday of it.She is great,very funny and good at being house trained only a few mistakes,she goes all night until about 6.30 and always goes on the paper. She is hard work and very strong but I love her to bit's.She is true brindle in colour with 3 white toes on each foot and a small white patch on her chest and she loves the kids.We have a crate that she sleeps in and she love's it with a big warm quilt you have got a job to see her sometimes.I have wanted a Bull Terrier for as long as I can remember and it is just as i imagined,GREAT.
Thanks for showing a interest some people don't like Bullies and I can't see why,they are loving and devoted and not at all nasty.Here from you soon

Hi my pup is not all that worried about food she does eat it but very slowly which is a good thing i suppose,my brothers dog bolts his like there's no tommorrow.She does how ever like her treats for going to the loo and such.Just try it and see if your pup like's it if not don't worry.
I,ve been told that lambs liver is best.

Hi Jude I was just looking at your post and I mis read it earlier.The receipie makes such a lot that when you cut it into small squares there is so much,so bag it into freezer bags and get one out when you need it

If you go to the butchers they will sell it in bulk very cheaply -I get a huge bag (it's digusting ) for about 7quid -lasts ages ( takes all day to cook it all though .....kitchen looks like a slaughter house !! )

I was at the butchers yesyterday and could not remember how much I had to get to make this! I will go back today to get some! I will ask for his left overs as it is the weekend! you never know!
I cant say I fancy the slaughterhouse look though ! mine is bad enough without adding that lok to it!

Does the type of flour make any difference, white wholemeal? I am going to give it a try, but knowing my husband ,it will end up eating it!

I use wholemeal because it sounds healthier :-D but I don't think it really matters, becareful because it does look like choc cake:-o Put in loads of garlic and the smell will put'im off

Can you tell me if this has a 'use by date'? I have made it and froze about a 3rd of it, and kept the rest in an airtight container. Should I throw it out after a few days?

Hi Nicola,
Should last a couple of days in an airtight tin in the fridge. I usually freeze all of it and take a bit out each day

Just a word of warning about liver cake. It's very bad for dogs that are prone to urinary stones, and
can cause stones to form really quickly. It's not just liver, but all forms of offal (apparently it's something to do with the release of purines, but that got a bit technical for me). Dalmatians as a breed have a higher than usual propensity for this, but any individual can develop the problem. If your dog (usually male, because of the narrowness of the urethra) suddenly has trouble weeing, get him to the vet immediately.

I also use soaked dog meal as a flour substitue, the dogs don't know the difference and it's great when going to dog shows means your dog doesn't have to miss out on a meal as they will eat this anywhere, also great for fussy eaters.
