Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Ive got myself in a puppy food diet dilemma! :-/ HELP!!!
- By Eeyore [gb] Date 27.08.11 18:11 UTC
My large breed pup was eating RC when we got him from the breeder, all poo's fine and good growth. He had a bout of colitis about 4 weeks later and we put him on RC Sensitivity until it passed (vets advise). He then gradually went back onto his RC Maxi Junior. Small amount of time passed and another bout of colitis arrived. After this one had passed the vet advised trying to change the food gradually. Started feeding part RC and part JWB large breed puppy. Another bout of colitis followed :-/. I'm now not sure if it was the RC, JWB or just one of those things and neither of the foods.
I am now feeding white fish and rice for a few days and his tummy seems to be settling...However this has put me in a huge dilemma of what diet to try feeding him gradually when his tummy is fully settled.
I don't want to keep messing with his diet.
Has anyone else experienced anything similar?
I would like to feed a complete food if possible.
Any advise would be very welcome :-) x

he might have developped intolerance to something in the food, you might have to try a different type - how about the fish variety of JWB. I don't have a large breed but I have experiences colitis and found the fish and rice JWB was fine for mine.

If fish agrees with him then trying one of the fish based completes may be the way to go, I have been using Fish4dogs for several months now since my lot went off RC, they love it and alternate between salmon and the basic fish types.

I think I mentioned on a previous post that many dogs can't tolerate grains, including rice. If you want a complete food I'd go for one of the grain-free foods (there are a few good one's on the market now) and see how you get on.

Fish for dogs is a grain free one so that would be fine and is excellent.
