If anybody breeds pedigree kittens on here, could you tell me how long you would expect to wait for registration papers from the GCCF?

Usually minimum 4 weeks, occasionally can be longer -especially if there is some query about it.

Oh thanks for that, so it does take a lot longer than the KC then, should I expect the papers to be available when collecting a 13 week old kitten or is it normal for them to be sent on later?

They should be ready really as if the breeder sends them off at 8 weeks that still leaves 5 weeks. But of course sometimes it doesn't happen, so I wouldn't worry TOO much as long as it was put in writing that the reg cert would follow. I always copy the application form so I can give new owners a copy as proof if the certs aren't back, just in case.

It's a while since I bred a litter of kittens but here are the links to GCCF pages on pedigree kittens

You should expect at the very least, the Signed Pedigree Certificate and Vaccination Certificate on the day of sale.

When I bought one of mine the Registration Certificate wasn't available and the breeder signed a letter to the effect that it would be sent on to me (and it was).  Not sure I'd be that trusting these days ;)

They take things like that seriously and breeders can be fined or banned.

Thanks for that Marianne :)

I'd forgotten that the GCCF have and use their teeth (and claws ;) )

With one of our litters of pedigree kittens the owners...and even ourselves, as we kept one to show had to wait quite a while for the papers because the GCCF queried the colour of the kittens.  The colours of the breed we have can be quite hard to decipher when you register them and it turns out the mum that we bought in had been registered slightly wrong so she had to be re-registered before the kittens could be.  The new kitten owners didn't mind as we kept them up to date constantly and they got their papers as soon as we could send them on.

Thanks for the help...I hadn't thought about asking for a signed letter regarding the papers, that is a good idea and I will certainly ask for it now!
