im not a breeder only in the process of looking for a puppy but thought this was the best place to post.after doing some research i was recommended a breeder and looked in on a forum that this breeder participates in,i didnt join so have been popping in occasionally to try and see if they were good breeders.however recently they had 10 litters all within a few weeks of each other then even more recently a further two.If that wasnt bad enough one of the bitches thats recently given birth had a litter in january this year after suffering pre eclamsia and an emmergency section.one member was shocked and voiced their opinion but only a handful of members agreed the rest thought there was nothing wrong with it,the breeder said his vet gave them the go ahead which i find hard to believe.If all that wasnt bad enough they openly admitted breeding their dogs from 14 months old! i will not be buying from this breeder i find it appalling,can i ask the breeders on her what you all think because this breeder seems to think what they are doing is normal,thank you

Let's put it this way I bet the majority of us aren't on that other website if that's their opinion on breeding etc

I've only had 12 litters with my breed in nearly 20 years that's with a no, of different dogs.  One girl here will be four at the beginning of next year and I've still not had a litter from her yet!

No, it's not normal, and against most breed club rules. I'd certainly not buy anything from them.

Have you contacted your relevant breed club for a list of breeders ? You would hope to get a list of good breeders that way.

Well unless you approve of puppy farms you will not approve of this breeder. No one who breeds for the sake of the breed would even consider doing as this breeder has done it is obvious that they are only breeding for money.

Welcome Binnie girl, as you have found there are dog forums (one in particular seems to be full of Back Yard breeders and small scale puppy farmers)  and then there are 'Dog forums'  like this one.

No your gut instinct would be correct.  I cannot see why any reputable breeder would breed that many liters, even if several members of the household were all involved in different breeds, that level of breeding can only be deemed commercial.

In fact any breeder that breeds more than 4 litters in any 12 month period is required to be Licensed by the Local Authority, and such breeders are not permitted by law to allow any bitch to have a litter in under 12 months from the last, so that puppy producer (I won't dignify them with the term breeder) is breaking the law..

The kind of breeders that most consider reputable will generally have no more than a couple of litters a year, and often less than a litter once a year,a s there are few breeders worthy of the name that keep large kennels of dogs.

Certainly in my breed those breeders who had kennels when I first joined the breed had fewer than 4 litters in a year, and most had 1 - 2, with others just the occasional litter every few years, but then mine is not a commercially sought after breed that is readily salable to the casual puppy buying public.

10 litters I dread to think the state of their home and how they have coped physically and emotionally as we needed a holiday after just the 1 litter :-)

because this person has a fancy new set up and can talk the talk everyone thinks this guy(and his wife) are god,its very upsetting that people like this are setting such a bad example and talking their way out of it.they breed at 14 months although another member said it was younger and they dont hire anyone there is just the two of them taking care of over 70 puppies and the other members are oooohing and aaahing at how amazing they are,im shocked!!

Maybe someone should point out they are breaking the law, they are either not licensed, or if they are then they re breaking one of the conditions that licensed breeders have to abide by (length of time between litters).

I believe that The Kennel clubs own records (and sadly they do accept registrations from volume breeders) show that 90% (or some similar statistic) of those using their services breed less than two litters a year,.

And may be a mention to the tax office, we could do with a bit of help and extra cash to the countries coffers would help.

Well if anyone bought a pup from them I can imagine it being a "clean" pup and not socialised at all. That is on a huge puppy farming scale they must have alot of dogs! Bet half of them never feel grass between there toes! Steer well clear an make it plain and simple you will not purchase from them because of there disposable practices and you will tell everyone you know not to buy from them either. Reminds me of that posh place breeding the oodles of doodles and labs

OOOooooo Nove beat me to it,the tax man would be extremely interested in this breeder, who is surely not KC registered in anyway.Probably not known to local council either who would be very interested as council tax would need changing as it appears to be a business premises not a home.

You'll never stop these sorts of people from breeding there is a huge puppy farm near to me been running for years, could tell you all about the mental state of the dogs that come out of there! Horrendous!! To say nothing about physical ailments. As siad before get holdofyour breed club and check out KC site for help. Visit breeders without puppies to get a feel for the breeder as they are just as important as things can go wrong and you need support from a responsible breeder.

Also make absolutely sure you are picking the right breed for you, that its not just about looks etc contact local trainer as well I have a list of breeders who's dogs have come through group and I think are good for the breed and good as pet dogs. Experience counts and the trainer could help you avoid a mistake as well. Good luck
