Hi All,
I had a litter of 5 pups all of which were feeding really well and ate all the meals i put down for them. 3 of them went to their new homes the weekend (at 8 weeks) so we have 2 left. We are keeping one ourselves and the other is not going to its new home for a couple of weeks.
Both pups are now not interested in eating their food but have now started suckling more from Mom. Everything i put down for them they leave even their favourite, scrambled egg. They are obviously not hungry as they are getting all they need from Mom and she doesnt mind one bit that they want to feed regularly. I have tried keeping Mom separated more after they have woke from naps but they are still not interested. They are both really healthy and putting on weight.
What would you all do?
Mine did this, I let them feed off her until she stopped it. I had planned for them not to feed off her so long but they all had other ideas.
They might be missing their litter mates so getting comfort off mum by suckling from her. Just keep putting food down for them with encouragment, they'll soon go back to it.
I'm sure someone else will be along with some more help for you. Good luck x

Thanks a lot, will tempt them with some tasty chicken when its cooked.xxx
We kept mum separated from pups for a few hours a day and gradually the pups realised the food was tastier anyway!
Our bitch wasn't too stressed from being without the pups but yours may be?

I put a babygro on my girl which meant she could still interact with the puppies, play with them, teach them manners etc, but they could not latch on. Quite handy for her too as by then they were big enough that they could bring her to a standstill by grabbing hold! Not sure how big your girl is, but if too big for a babygro perhaps a t-shirt could be altered? I didn't have her in it all the time, just for a couple of hours before puppy feeding.
Couldnt imagine finding a babygro big enough for my girls lol! But i agree maybe a comfort thing DW

Thanks for the tips, will separate them for a while each day and see how it goes.
Babygrow is a great tip - definately worth a try and she is definately small enough to fit in one.
thanks all.xxxx
